straw cups

My son is 1, just turned a year old a few weeks ago. Everyone is suggesting the straw cups vs regular sippy cups. I just wanted to know why they were successful for everyone else? Or how? My son doesn't know how to suck from a straw..... he throws the cup cause he doesn't know how to use it. Any ways to teach him maybe?

Eh one day DD just watched me with my coffee drink, then grabbed my cup and took a pull from the straw. She used straw cups ever since then. She was about 8 months old.

I taught DD by using one myself and I used the straw like a dropper. My finger covered the one end and she had to suck to make it come out, after that she figured the cup out pretty quickly.

I used a no spill straw cup at about seven months. He had some problems with it so I took the no spill part out and he figured it out in a day. After a couple days I replaced the part.
