Quoting Buzz and Almond Joys momm:" Those charts don't mean obese in the way obese is portrayed. That would be morbidly obese. She doesn't look morbidly obese but a little chunky"

I have a friend who has started body building and is considered obese based on muscle weight alone.

She does look a very little bit chubby, but not bad, and certainly nothing I'd worry about. My daughter, at her 5 year check up in September was 43 1/2 inches tall and 37 lbs. She's in a 5 for her waist, but the pants get so short in just a couple of wearings.

Same with my husband. Those charts are nuts.

Uh i think last time he was like 46 inches he is a taller than alot of kids in his class. It used to be that he was the same amount of inches as pounds.

My DS was like 4 ft 3 at his five year check up and 55 lbs, they never said anything to me about him being overweight. That is mind blowing! She looks chubby BUT I was a chubby kid and am now 5'7 and 142 lbs (before being pregnant and giving birth I was consistently 130), my siblings and I were ALWAYS at the high end of the 90th percentile in weight and height. I wouldn't worry one bit about that weird chart, or what a quack(in your situation anyways) or wic crazy has to say about her weight.

Same with DD. She's a skinny little thing.

My old pedi wanted to put savannah on a diet because her BMI was in the "overweight-obese" category. Her weight alone was fine but since she is short it made her BMI like 90. Mind you I can see ribs on this kid. She was a chunky baby and always at the top of the growth chart. I think the doctor looked at me being morbidly obese and assumed thats the direction she was headed. At her 3 year check up she said if she wasn't loosing weight in the next 3 months I would have to put her on a diet. Yea a diet for a three year old. Heaven forbid she look at her chart and see that she hadn't even grown in an inch in the last year. Sure enough 2 months later same weight but she grew 2 inches and was at a BMI of 64. I loathe that chart too and we switched doctors.

well who knows!! you wouldn't guess mine weighs that much until you go to pick her up, though. she has muscle tone in her legs and her back so i think that is where all her weight is.

I think those charts should be done away with and they should take a body fat measurement at the office instead. And of course that should not be taken the same as it is for adults because children have more body fat than adults.

I gotta say that I am pretty shocked that some of you would think that she look chunky or chubby. She just seems so skinny to me. Like, i've seen overweight kids and I cannot even picture putting Cora in the same catergory.
