That's the biggest load of crap. People don't say it because it says "under God." TWO WORDS.

I swear people find anything possible to bitch about.

Why?

She wasn't just kicked out for not doing the assignment but because the whole issue had gotten on the media, and I'm sure they removed her from the class so it wouldn't be a distraction to the other students.

Ohhhh...

Damn, excellent point.

I don't disagree with that but there is no law that requires anyone to say the pledge. In America there is both freedom of speech and freedom of expression allowed. Although it can be considered desrepectful to not say the pledge I personally don't want it ever to be a forced issue.

Quoting ☠Jenniefahhh:" Why?"

Because the entire pledge is stupid and not even fair. "I pledge allegiance to the flag, of the united states of America." Okay, I get that I should stand behind my country, but this is what really gets me, "And to the republic, for which it stands, one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

Well where the HELL is the liberty and justice for the entire republic it supposedly stands for? Can gay couples marry? Do they have all the rights straight couples do? No? Well that's not justice. Are women and men treated the same? No. That doesn't show justice. The list goes on... I just think this nation is pretty crappy when it comes to showing "liberty and justice" for everyone. This nation is pretty divided on MANY aspects. Then bring in God... we should NOT have a nation founded on one religion or one facet of multiple religions. It's not right.

In high school I'd have to stand for the pledge for JROTC and I finally had a talk with my Sargent that I didn't find it fair. I didn't find it to hold truth. We both decided that I'd stand and salute but no longer recite. And to this day I haven't recited because it's just shocking how we are supposed to give respect to a pledge that doesn't even give respect to the members of the nation itself!

So I will give respect to the flag, to the pledge... to my nation. But will I recite it? No. Because it holds no truth.

Yup! We have no real justice and liberty here.... the pledge is smurfed. I refuse to say it. It just holds no power or value to me. I will give respect and stand, but that's it.

Not in an assignment. It isn't as if she was disrespecting the country.
