Breastfeeding question

posted 1st Mar
Is it normal for a newborn to seem to want to be on the boob constantly? It seems like DD never gets full. Is she getting enough??

Yes newborn=always on the boob. Give it whenever he/she wants it. The babys just making your boobs make the right amount of milk.

Okay good. I just wanted to make sure she was getting enough. How long does this usually last? I'd like to make myself a sandwich at some point or something... Haha

You sound like me when my youngest DD was born. She was constantly and i mean CONSTANTLY on my poor boobs. I was so confused and tired and when I brought it up to my doctor she was just like..."eh...that's normal." lol

usually the first 5 ish days and then about every 3 weeks after that the baby goes through a "high needs period" that lasts a day or two - all very normal. Let her feed on demand

It makes me so tired! I'm like, passing out as she's feeding! I feel like I've lost 10 lbs in the past two days... Lol.

Ha. My dd is eight months old and it feels like just recently her boob schedule isn't so scattered. Its annoying at times and draining or whatever but I'm so glad I stuck with it.

It's totally normal for a newb. Boobs are the big comfort and provider for a newb. Food, sucking comfort, being close to mommy, nice and warm, all while nursing, who would want to give that up?!

When you get a few free minutes or have someone around have them make you some snacks like PB and crackers, sandwiches, cut up fruit, etc that you can easily snack on with one hand while nursing to keep up with your calories. And make sure you are drinking plenty.

Completely normal, I made tons of PB&J's for myself for the first few days, loads of calories and....I had an irrational craving for them for an embarrassing amount of time :p. Make sure you keep a full cup of water next to you at all times and keep taking your prenatal (If you arent already). These things were my lyfe for the first week! Hah!
