Ughhhh. He would never agree to just give up his rights, I know that much. He's still hoping we'll get back together I think. It's not that he's a super smurffy dad who beat on his kids or anything, but he isn't exactly father of the year either.

I just hate knowing that my current boyfriend, who is amazing and has done more for them than my ex ever did, will never actually be their dad on paper.

I think that's pretty much anywhere.
I'm on the guy's side on that one. If a woman can decide not to have a baby, a man should be able to do the same. At least in the case of one night stands and smurf.

The kid I mentioned is my nephew and my sister. They were together for almost 3 years and he decided one day to split on her and her son and their son and not do anything. it's been almost a year since he's seen my nephew

Sorry I meant to put ex-boyfriend, not boyfriend. And if he doesn't want to give up his rights, but hasn't legally abandoned them (as determined by your state laws), then unfortunately there's not much you can do. Sorry

It's a sucky situation for all parties involved in child custody in my opinion. Just because your boyfriend isn't the dad on paper doesn't mean he's not their dad though. You could still try for full custody. Then the bio father can remain as uninvolved as he wants to be.

You can have it put in your parenting plan. As of now me and my stepkids stepdad have no rights at all to them. When we go back to court that will change
