freaking pissed! vent long story

So I woke up this morning to really bad contractions 5 minutes apart. When I called the drs office they said to go right up to L&D which I did. My dr was on call yesterday and I was pretty sad that she wasn't there today, because the dr that was on call today is just straight up rude... like really rude. But decided the contractions were just getting worse so I went right up to L&D. When I got up there my contractions were about 2-3 minutes apart and really painful to the point of crying. The cramps then moved to my back and which point I asked my nurse if I could have tylenol or something cause they hurt so bad. She said I can't give you anything till the dr checks you but from the looks of everything you are in labor.. I was like alright, and then she started having me sign a bunch of papers for the epidural, my support people, the papers to get Liam's birth certificate, and started asking me questions involving vaccinations I want given to him at birth. I could barely speak the pain had reach about an 11 on a 1-10 scale. The dr still hadnt seen me, the nurse then went and got the dr and the dr was standing right outside my door and asked who the patient was. When the nurse said my name the dr then said "You check her. And then send her home, I don't want to deal with her today, I have too many other patients." Like really lady WTF I can hear you, the door is open and you just said that really...... So the nurse came in and was like uhhh she had to go to the floor and see another patient, and I was like yeah ok I heard what she said. So the nurse then checked me. I was dilated and still contracting every 2-3 minutes but instead of sending me walking she goes and says I'm sorry but I have to send you home. Come back tonight if your contractions are getting stronger and closer together... Why the HELL would I come back when that same dr is on call tonight?! I'm just really angry and don't see why a dr would do that to a patient.... *End Vent* sorry this was so long....... please do not quote.

Wow what a terrible doctor. I'm so sorry you're going through this. Any chance you could go to another hospital for the delivery? (from the sounds of it, it won't be long). Anything to get away from that bitch.

WOW. Seriously. I would REFUSE to leave and DEMAND to talk to somebody higher up ASAP. That's messed the mess up. Or maybe I'd take a step outside and step back in and be like "Okay, I'm back!"

I would have gotten the nurse's name, and a written statement of what the doctor said. I would file a complaint with the hospital, and the medical board. She could not turn you away if you were in labor. I would also have demanded a different doctor(which is completely within your rights).

I can't go to another hospital unforunately, none of the other hospitals take my insurance. I called and complained and they said if the dr didn't feel like I needed to stay then she did what was best. I was like I didn't even freaking see her she stood outside the door and told me nurse that she refused to see me. Her shift ends at midnight and then my dr is on call so hopefully I can wait till then to go back in

Did you tell them she never even CHECKED you so she couldn't possibly form an opinion on if you should be sent home or not?!

I then called and they said that it was officially up to the dr. I am so pissed but I know my dr will do something when I tell her

I had a similar experience with a butthead on call. Demand to speak with your doctor. Mine offered to come see me and deliver even if he wasnt on call. Good luck

Every hospital should have a "patients advocate" cal and ask to speak with them. Their whole job is to make sure patients are receiving proper care, and they have to follow up on your complaint.

I almost can't believe that. Insanity. And complete negligence and lack of compassion for you being in labor and in pain. So sorry that happened, if you are still contracting, I would take my happy butt up there and refuse to leave until I have my baby. I'm not going to suffer because the doctor on call wants to be lazy right now. If she doesn't like the job demands, she needs to go into a different field!!
