Holy cow, seriously.

Personal question, (don't answer if you don't want to) how much do you make an hour?

Ugh I hate it here, you won't find anything but a fixer-upper for less than 200k

I'd never want to make such a commitment to living with my mother in law/SO's mother.
And you gotta think, unless you get a house with a least 2 more bedrooms than you would get if it were just you guys, it won't really make a difference.
a 3 bedroom vs a 4 bedroom with an extra person won't really give you much extra space, bedroom wise.
And with the hoarding and whatnot, I just for sure wouldn't do it.

My in-laws, a few years ago, offered us to live with them. We'd have 1 bedroom upstairs, and the basement, that has a bedroom. Which is about as much space as we have now. And they only wanted like, $600 a month that they were going to put away in savings for us, and then give to us in a huge chunk when we had enough for a down payment. It was super sweet but I still just...no.

Not to bust your bubble but where are you getting these prices from? I just helped my brother with the purchase of his first home and it's was 124900. He put down 6245 which was 5% and his mortgage payment is $708. That is with a 3% interest rate on a 30 year loan. His property taxes are $1003 a year and insurance is $375. He also has to carry mortgage insurance which is $93 a month. He got the seller to pay half closing so he still had to come with a few grand for that. You need to figure in all those hidden costs not just the house price with interest.

I make $8.95 (which is Smurf for what I do, I'm an assistant manager). SO makes $14.50. We bring in about $50k a year.

I obviously know there are closing costs, insurance, and fees throughout the year. Which is why I'm wanting to keep the monthly payment below what we're paying now ($690), so I can factor in those added monthly costs.

Those numbers aren't right because our loan was only 88k and our mortgage is 726 a month.

How? My coworker has a house in Colerain and her mortgage is around $90k and her payments are only $605 a month... including taxes and what not. She also put the minimum amount required down... I think she said $3-4k.

She was in the process of filing bankruptcy   SO has pretty good credit... somewhere in the lower 700s. Mine has jumped 100 points within the last year (thank you, car loan). So I don't think our interest would be too insane. I couldn't imagine paying $700+ on an $88k house. That's crazy. Unless she's in downtown Cincinnati or a historical part (then I could understand). But in a neighborhood with no significance? Nuts.
