Lovenox/Heparin mamas!

posted 27th Feb
I have a question! I'm on Lovenox, will be switched to Heparin closer to the end. My belly is starting to get tight, and soon I'll be running out of subcutaneous fat to do my injections. Once your belly got tight, where did you do your injections? Butt? Thigh? I think thigh shots would hurt.

I was told they had to be done in the belly, period. :/

They ended up further and further back toward my hips the bigger I got, and lower and lower.

Ugh...

I'll have to ask my OB about it at my next appointment. My belly is so bruised and tender.

i dont take heparin or lovenox...but you probably are going to have issues lol you are so dang thin!! so youll run out of subq areas ...but for a thinner person maybe inner thighs would work...

i think youll just need to do the boob  bahaha...you are so stinking skinny no butt fat or thigh fat so your just SOL jk jk...im guessing thigh would be less painful than but tho...

I remember that and I don't envy you it at all. :/ It took months for the discoloration to go away, and even longer for the lumps that formed to disappear, too.

I was told the same thing, but I was given Lovenox for almost a year after I was in a car accident. I was in a wheel chair and had to have four surgeries, I wasn't really mobile AT ALL so they were worried about clotting. I never ran out of areas to inject but I was told it had to be your stomach. OP, if you really have no where else to inject, I would contact your doctor. I'm sure they'll have a solution for you   Good luck!

Actually, I have a fat butt, lol.

I'm running out of belly fat, though. It's getting harder and harder to pinch an inch!

Sometimes I get the lumps, and sometimes I don't. Sometimes I bruise, and sometimes I don't. I have a big, nasty bruise that's been hanging around for like a week. My hubby does my shots. I can't do it.

I hope you get some good answers. I have my progesterone injections in my butt, and my SO has done them up until now. I get my shots on Fridays, and SO works on a boat, and left Monday for 5 weeks. Now I get to give them to myself and will probably do it in my thigh.

I did the heparin twice a day. Hubby did my first couple. I did the rest. Pinch an inch, take a deep breath, count to three, and stab. It never really doesn't suck, but it does suck less after you've done it a couple times to yourself. lol Until the end when you just want to stop doing it, then it gets harder and harder.

My lumps just kind of accumulated progressively and then took months to go away after. lol And the sides of my stomach were always bruised, always, it just kind of moved around and then the whole area was purple. It went away eventually.

I think the lumps are worse with Heparin, aren't they? At least that's something I've noticed with my patients. I can give shots all day, but I just can't inject myself!

My insurance wouldn't approve Lovenox, so I was on Heparin the whole time, so I can't attest to that one way or the other. lol

I think it just makes it worse, too, that I was getting 2x the number of shots.   I forget which one is supposed to burn worse, but the Heparin burn wasn't so bad sometimes and unholy others. lol

Lovenox freaking stings! I'm not looking forward to 2 shots a day, but I'll do whatever it takes to keep this baby baking.

Exactly! It sucks, but it's worth it.

People always asked me how I could endure the shots, 2x a day all that time. It seemed kind of obvious to me...because otherwise either myself or my child was at risk.

Totally worth the shots.

Right! When I hear people bitch about having heartburn, I can't help but think to myself "at least you don't have to inject yourself daily with pig-based blood thinners that burn and bruise!"
