Of course they would technically be cousins.

But genetically, it would be as though they were siblings, because they came from the same gene pool.

that's right. they would look exactly as close as any siblings on a DNA test.

exactly.

Untrue.

Identical twins have identical DNA

This. Their children, technically cousins, would genetically be siblings.

I have identical twin boys, btw.

I'm with you. Like I said, genetics is more complicated than that...you carry multiple genes for different traits, even though you may not express them. The simplest example I can think of is that you can carry the gene for blue eyes even if you have brown eyes. Each egg and sperm has a unique combination of genes. So the children would be more genetically similar than most cousins, yes, but not identical.

while they would have close DNA b/c of the similarities they would be no different than siblings in any other family (even though they are cousins). you would have to take their dna and make the little squares and see the different combinations and each kid would have a 1 in 4 chance of being from the same square. if that makes sense.

She's talking about the kids not being identical. If each set had a girl, they wouldn't be the exact same looking.

OP, like you said, siblings are created from the same mom and dad and don't look identical.

True. If your example was true, then it would mean that the same parents would always produce genetically identical offspring.

And that punnet square would be for each individual gene...assuming it is a simple dominant/recessive.

Yes, i know that.. BUT if they reproduce, each child will NOT have the same DNA as their cousin/genetic siblings...... say they each have 5-6-7 or whatever, kids, all of them will not have IDENTICAL DNA because they each came from the same gene pool. Its going to be a little different for each child, its not guarenteed that sperm 1 & egg 1 are going to make a child like the other group of twins, what if sperm 6 & egg 2 make a child.......

They won't have the same exact DNA, but genetically will be the same as siblings.

Yes, I understand that- SO is arguing that the children from each set/cousins, would be IDENTICAL & have identical dna. Which is wrong.

Yes, just as with regular siblings.
