Does anyone know anything about meningitis?

I was just informed someone I used to be really close with has just been admitted to the ICU with it. Is this likely to be fatal...?

Viral or bacterial? It's usually fine. It's the kissing disease lol, though it's not really a disease.

I thought that was mono.

Most people are fine but it CAN be fatal.

That's Mononucleosis...

Both can be very serious depending on how soon they get medical attention.

You're right, I wasn't thinking. But bacterial is an emergency situation, but viral is usually milder. Bacterial is an infection covering the membranes og the
brain and spinal cord.

Most people with bacterial meningitis get hospitalized as viral is not as serious.

Hopefully they caught it soon enough and they are alright!

My cousin's wife had bacterial meningitis and lost both arms and legs. Hope your friend is going to be ok

I had viral meningitis last April, and I was in the hospital and given a spinal tap to find it out, but you don't end up in the icu with viral. It feels like bacterial, but it can't kill you (what the er doc said)

They probably have bacterial meningitis, and it does kill a significant amount of people. Some people never even make it to the hospital because goes from kinda bad to fatal very quickly. Hopefully your friend is ok! At least they made it to the hospital.
