Errr... why don't they do that anymore? Jaundice can get so bad that it can destroy baby's liver. I don't think that's something to toy around with....

dd had it and i guess because babies were being burned? thats what 2 dif pedis told us. dd had a beliruben of 14 and we just had to keep feeding her formula and bf mix... i finally gave in and just did formula because i wasnt producing enough. I know its serious and i feel like our doctors and hospitals didnt take dd's case serious enough. im just going by what we were told.

Our insurance covered the Billy Bed. We kept it for a week and I never had to use formula. In fact, I was told to keep him on the breast as much as possible. Not sure why they'd tell you to do he opposite.

I was told to formula feed because my milk hadnt come in. It was in an effort to avoid phototherapy. It does not always work. It sure as heck didn't work for my daughter. She just got worse and worse. So hospitals not having light therapy available is dangerous and a load of bs on their part in my opinion. They explained to us that we had to take her out every four hours and they changed her position to avoid burns.

Something must have been wrong with the bili bed then because that's just unheard off.

This.
They gave me until she was 5 days old and when my milk had not arrived, they told me to supplement formula. My milk came in shortly after. I am hoping my milk comes in sooner this time around because those 5 days were nervewracking.

my daughter was jaundiced and they sent her home and told me to keep an eye on her. when she wouldn't wake up i took her back. they said that they needed to supplement with formula and i let them. she was kept under the bili light for 2-3 days (i can't remember) and given formula and breast milk. after that she never had formula again and she slowly stopped being yellow

For Ash, she was put under the lights and BF'd.
Noone suggested supplementing, but we did go for a couple of days after being released to ensure her levels were lowering
