Thank you! It helps to hear words of encouragement! And good for you! Food journals really are AMAZING. Makes you feel like you're held accountable for what you put into your body.

Thank you! That definitely helped! I wasn't sure if her comments just hurt so much because it was the truth or if she really was being extreme.

Exactly. Everytime I go to eat something I shouldnt I think crap my doctor is going to know I ate this and I put it back. If she keeps pushing you maybe its time to look for another midwife.

It's hard to say....usually if you are overweight pre pregnancy, your doctor may have you gain only about 20 lbs. total for your pregnancy, just to make sure that you are staying at a healthy weight and are on the right track. I am 25 weeks pregnant, as of today, and I went to my Ob/Gyn on Friday, March 22nd; My doctor told me I had gained about 15 lbs and I was on the right track. He wanted me to only gain 30 lbs, total for the whole pregnancy. I am also 5'2 and I was 150 lbs. pre pregnancy. I am now 163 lbs.

If you are obese pre-pregnancy it is recommended to only gain 11-20 bs total. Here you are 4 months in and have already gained 6lbs. So 1/2 to 1/3 of the total weight and still have 23 weeks to go. The more you gain the more you have to lose after giving birth. I'm sure she wasn't trying to be a bitch or extreme, just trying to give you a serious talk about what she sees.

I am not judging you or trying to sound mean- I too am overweight and was heavier when I was pregnant with my second and third, 184 starting weight with both, and I got a talk from my dr, at that time about weight expectations and being careful about my diet. But I was told- it's okay to splurge every once in awhile, don't feel like everything is off limit all the time, but for the majority eat smaller portions and heathy choices.

Thanks for the advice mama!
I actually knew all of that already, my only concern was that she told me to cut out all fats, sugars, and carbs. I just think that sounds a lot more like putting me on a diet than anything else. I understand making healthy choices, but that seems like a diet to me.

I dont think you look huge in you recent pic, we work in KG's not pounds in NZL. I wuold suggest you eat heatlhy foods, try to cut down on your breads and pastas and sweets. But a healthy balanced diet will keep you and baby well nourished. Water is the best choice to drink, as you have been doing. Their are risk factors for over weight ladies in Pregnancy, the main one being gestational diabetes, adn having a baby that is small for gestational age. When you are over weight and not fit, your cardiovascular system isnt as onto it as if you were your optimal weight and fit, so it takes more effort for your body to provide nutrients to the placenta and too baby. The more you exercise, the more your body will nourish your growing baby better. From the ladies I have helped look after through labour, the bigger the BMI the harder they laboured and the more painful it was for them, it is also harder to get an epidural in if needed.
Enjoy your food, but eat healthy and go for a walk etc daily
