it really drives us nuts, I'd love to hear anyone's experience with this.

I mean, should we try waking him up every time we notice him start to grind? Would that start to move him out of the habit…? I just don't know what to do about it.

There's no way to break it as you are sleeping and can't control it. Idk how they do it for children but I have a bite splint. it's kind of like an invisilign retainer with a thing that keeps your teeth apart a little in the back and its softer than teeth so when u grind on it it doesn't rubyour teeth down.

oh god, that would not work with O.

I wonder if there are things to do to break the habit….if we woke him up every time we noticed him doing it…?

My son does the same thing. He will be 5 soon. Dentist said there is really nothing they can do until he gets older.

The sounds drives me CRAZY.

the sound makes me want to put him in his own bed…..I've actually noticed MYSELF grinding my teeth more subconsciously….can't be good. lol

My DD is almost 4 and she's been grinding her teeth at night, every night since the day she had teeth. It's awful.

YES. My son has been sleeping with me lately, but the sound will literally wake me up. I told him this morning he is sleeping in his own bed cuz I cannot deal anymore! I feel bad

we actually occasionally move O in to his room in the middle of the night because of it. But I feel so bad, because he'll wake up disoriented a few hours later and run screaming through the house.   So we really don't do that much. Only when we REALLY need good sleep and he's just keeping us up.

But I can't believe how common it is. I'm genuinely surprised.

Awww poor thing   Yeah, I was surprised when I first asked about it too. Apparently it's really common in preschool aged kids. My dentist said he should outgrow it by the time he gets his adult molars... when is 7 or 8

I've read that teeth grinding can be a sign of pinworms. Also it can be related to some neurologic disorders.

Landon used to grind his teeth during his sleep as well. It was SOOO loud!! I was really concerned!!

At his dentist appointment, the Dentist said it should go away by itself and it's nothing to worry about since his teeth were still very pointy. If they start wearing down or smoothing out then it's an issue.

He hasn't done it for a while now, so I bet it will go away in a couple months.
