Breastfeeding a toddler

posted 26th Feb
LO is 2.5 years old & nurses about 5 times a day (once in the morning for 5-10 mins, about 3 times during the day for 20 SECONDS or less, and once at night for 5-10 mins.

Well I was curious to see how much milk would come out if I pumped now ( I haven't pumped since she was like a year old) so I got out my old pump and pumped for 10 mins. Only like 3 drops came out!! And when i touched the milk, it was really STICKY and thick. Is that normal?

I'm not worried about supply issues beause she is obviously eating other foods, and she mostly nurses for comfort and I know she is at least getting a tiny bit of my milk each day.
But if she still wants to nurse I kind of want to try to up my supply a little. I think I'm gonna start pumping a couple times a day so I can at least get an ounce or 2 instead of drops. I've also read about moms who make like Popsicles with pumped milk or i can just give it to her in a cup if she wants.

I'm mostly wondering about the stickiness. It was like really fatty/greasy. I was just not expecting that lol.

If you have negative comments, don't even bother. You don't have a clue
What you are talking about unless youve actually done it.

When I weaned my son at 2 1/2 I expressed a tiny bit for a little relief. Mine was thick and sticky as well. My son only nursed at night but it was all night.

I read somewhere that thicker sticky milk could be from you not drinking enough water.

You still got engorged when he weaned at 2 1/2? Wow, my boobs are so empty I don't think I would get engorged at all lol

That's probably true, I never drink enough :/ I'll have to work on that again.

Not really engorged just like.... stuck? Idk how to explain it. It wasn't painful but it was sludgey feeling. Lol.

Right before I got pregnant my son was 2 1/2 too(still breastfeeding twice a day, when he woke up and before bed). My milk was still like regular breastmilk, definitely not thick. I never got engorged and I'm definitely curious about how much milk actually came out but if I squeezed my boob it would squirt pretty damn far lol but only a few times and then it would stop so I doubt there was much. Nevertheless, it was like regular milk consistency.

Can you see your LO swallow while nursing? When we were done nursing, my milk was like that too.

I haven't been able to squirt milk for almost a year I think.. In a way I'm kind or tired of nursing, but at the same it makes me sad she's getting so big :/
