mild asthma

posted 26th Feb
So after being short of breath for almost two weeks and not being able to get a deep breath in I was told today I have a mild case of asthma. I was given flovent inhaler to use once a day. Anyone else have a mild case of asthma? If so how long did it last and how did you cope with it? I swear it feels like someone is sitting on my chest and I cant get a deep breath in

S/o has asthma. He has a steroid inhaler called Symbicort and an emergency oxygen inhaler. He just kind of deals with it. If your inhaler isn't alleviating your symptoms you might need something else.

inhalers aren't oxygen...it is probably a albuterol inhaler that he has as an emergency inhaler.

OP Asthma is a life long disorder...My daughter is on flovent 2x's a day for until ?????? maybe forever? It helps her symptoms, but we had to do albuterol treatments every 2 hrs, then 3 hrs, then 4 hrs (When we finally got discharged from the hospital) to get her where she could actually feel "normal"

Is there any way it could have gone undiagnosed? Have you ever wheezed before? Coughed alot during the night in the past few years or months? I would think of the other symptoms but I'm too tired. He is probably just doing an eval in 3 weeks. My friend just got diagnosed with asthma too

Yea they didn't even want to put A on flovent because it isn't approved for children under 4 but the way her asthma attacks suddenly come on and she deteriorates rapidily they decided it was our best best, along with toting a steroid with us wherever we go (prednisolone)

You do have it forever. It is a disease. It will never truly go away. Did you get diagnosed by a general doctor or a pulmonologist?

Pulmonologist. I had a breathing test today. My numbers were lower than they should be. It helps I work with this dr he set me up for the breathing test

Yae he is probably gonna do a re-eval at your next appt. Audrianna had an eval a few days after we got out of the hospital (by our regular doctor) and she will go see our regular doctor in 3 months in case she needs a referral to the asthma team at our Children's hospital again.   Our local hospital actually tried telling me she had pneumonia and it was perfectly safe to give her breathing treatments every 1 1/2-2 hrs which is a big no no at home thing to do with kids.

When I was in middle/high school sometimes I would get exercise induced asthma, usually at cross country or track meets. I used an inhaler at those times and it helped immediately and was great. I don't have that problem at all anymore, especially here in OK. I can run 6 miles here and not get winded, lmao. I also became allergic to my husbands cat (when we first started dating) and I could barely stand to be at his house. I started not being able to breath at all while I was there and my doctor gave me advair to take daily and an inhaler. I loved that inhaler, it saved me, lol. Now that we're married and live together, we keep the cat hair picked up and vaccumed and we have airfilters in all the rooms in the house that I'm normally in. If it weren't for the air filters we would have to get rid of the cat. I don't have asthma symptoms hardly ever anymore and don't have an inhaler or any other asthma meds.
