Why during a c section..

posted 26th Feb
Do they strap your hands down?? I have had 3 and never have asked.. Is it so you don't flail and hit the doctors while they are working??

they always told me so you don't assist....

But my aunt says if something goes wrong it's easier to stabalize a person that way

In Caitlyn's they got her to put her hands on her chest.

They do it so you dont knock the curtain, accidentally put your hands in something, just as a general safety precaustion.

I've had 2 so far and they only strapped mine down during my emergency one...
I assumed it was to ensure i wouldn't accidentally grab at things or hit things since i was really out of it.

Probably to prevent panicked flailing, and if you lift your arms, muscles in your lower body move and when they are cutting into stuff that is the opposite of what is good.

I've wonder that too. But with DD, they didn't strap my hands down at all. They let me have my cell phone in the OR so DH could call since he was about to get on a plane to leave Afghanistan lol

I had an emergency section and asked for them not to.
Instead, they had DH hold one hand, and a nurse hold the other

With my last, they only strapped down one hand and then left the other unstrapped. I was so glad cause then I was able to touch DS2 when DH brought him over to me.

With my first I was put to sleep, so idk how they did it and then my second they didn't strap my arms down at all. So when they started strapping me down I asked to have at least one not and they let me.

If Tony (DH) saw my arms strapped down he would have flipped smurf. They had already started before he got in the OR. They also would have had to sedate me if they did. Im claustrophobic and I would have went nuts

They strapped down only one of my hands and my friend held the other one.
I was like, "why are you guys strapping me down like I'm a crazy person. I'm not crazy, I promise." haha and they told me it was so I didn't hit the doctor on accident when they started cutting.

I'm glad they let him and a nurse just hold your hand then! That's scary.
