DH is buying me a camera...

posted 26th Feb
My birthday is coming up and I've been wanting a nice camera. We don't know anything about cameras but I'm willing to learn. I plan on taking a photography class later this summer. I've been researching online and I'm thinking the Canon Rebel t4i? We are mainly wanting a nice camera for personal use (our kids, family events, etc.). Any advice or suggestions for my first nice starter camera? I need all the help I can get! And what do you suggest on lenses? I will mainly be taking photos of my children (2 yo and 2 week old). TIA!!

I would suggest going to Best Buy or something and hold a Nikon and a Canon. Go with whatever feels better in your hands.

I plan on going to Best Buy tomorrow.   I just want an idea of what I'll be looking for rather than going in there blind. Lol

That is what I have. It's a great starter camera! The lens will give you nice bokeh compared to a kit lens.

I'd go with a Canon T3i or a Nikon 3000 series. Those are great beginner cameras. But I would also get a 50mm 1.8 lens because the kit lenses aren't real capable.

this. Most people will recommend based on their personal preference. The only way you will know what camera to get is to go test them out to get the feel of what you're more comfortable with.

I'm definitely leaning towards Canon. What is the difference in lenses? What would be good for indoor photos of my children and outdoor photos of them?

50mm 1.8 is GREAT for outdoors. You can use it indoors just will have to back up a bit. lol

I loooooove my T2i. A few of my friends have the T4i, so I've played around on them a bit, but if you're looking for an easy-to-use, great quality camera to mostly take pictures with, I'd suggest looking at the T2i. The T4i seems more geared toward those who want to shoot videos. Plus you could find the T2i for cheaper, which would leave you with extra money to buy a good case/extra lenses/etc.

For the record, I love pretty much anything Canon. You really can't go wrong.

So I should purchase the camera and then buy separate lenses? I noticed online at Best Buy that they have a few deals that includes a lens.

ive never had a super nice camera so im so overly excited and anxious. The only camera i had was a canon powershot, was a good little camera til my husband dropped it and messed up the lens... Im gonna sooo protect this camera, probably will be around my neck 24/7 lol.
