Quoting Jennybananna:" Talk to your doctor about what they offer. Usually there are IV pain meds or gas. Personally for me the ... [snip!] ... for pain but made me feel loopy as smurf. I never did gas and have had two very successful vaginal births with epidurals."
Quoting Yurvette [♥]:" Same here. Inductions up the chance of you having a c section. "The epidural actually helped my labor with my second. I progressed so fast after they broke my water by body was going into shock from the pain. The epi relaxed me just enough that my heart rate went back to normal and so did the baby. My active labor was less than 2 hours.

Quoting PurpleBama582:" I had 3 successful vaginal births with epidurals. I didn't even need pitocin with my third. My sister ... [snip!] ... had an epidural with her daughter, but needed a c-section because she stopped progressing and her blood pressure was rising. "
Quoting Bettinas:" I took the gas up until things became complicated due to the Pitocin. Pitocin is the devil, man "
^^ This!
I actually wanted an epi but until I had to get Pitocin I was dealing really well with the pain and didn't need anything. After I got the Pitocin it was too late. I did get Stadol, but to be honest I don't even know if it made a difference. I will say that I CARED less about the pain. I also forgot the breathing is a necessary human function. DH had to keep reminding me to breath between contractions.
