Placed 4 year old in time out

I placed my 4 year old in time out after I told him multiple times to stop hitting my laptop while I was on it. He then got mad and punched me in my stomach. I placed him in timeout with the "america's super nanny" technique. He was so angry that I would not speak to him while he was in there that he was trying to pull every heart string he could to get me to budge. He finally said "I will never play with you again, I hate you mom" WHOA WHOA.. I know he does not know what hate means, but those words sure dug deep. I did not budge nor show emotion to his mean words. Man... that really hurt my feelings though...

Its best to just ignore those kinds of words, right?

I would let him know that, that is COMPLETELY NOT okay and to NEVER ever say that to you again let alone anyone else.. Hate is a strong word. Good luck mama!  

I usually address it with " that really hurts my feelings, and you will not speak to me that way", with an extra minute or so in time out.

Though, frankly, after the second time he hit my laptop, I would have put it away for a bit while I redirected him.

My brother used to say "Nobody loves me..." While crying. That would meld to "you love me, right? You do! You love me" while he was in tears. Seriously broke my heart, but he knew it would work...

I would definetely tell him is not okay. I taught that to my son since he was like 3. The way I put it to him was that not only it hurts my feelings but is something that he truly doesn't feel. I explained that when I am mad at him I never tell him that I hate him because being mad doesn't mean hate. Also, the next time he told me that he loved me, I reminded him of his mean words and he understood that he didn't mean what he said and never did it again.
