Are you serious? [Not you, OP but in general]. There are a ton of hungry kids out there that either don't qualify or can't get on food stamps and they want to start giving them to dogs?

Yeah but dogs arent cheap. If youvan afford a big ass dog, you should be able to afford to feed it. I think its kinda stupid honestly....

Against. Food stamps are a last resort to help aid a family in obtaining food. It doesn't even usually provide for enough funds to cover the families entire food needs throughout the month. Our country needs to make the policies more strict to help prevent fraud and over spending in the welfare department. The government cannot afford people to feed their pets.

If they want to do that, then sure, if it was government funded I'd pitch a fit. I no longer have a dog, but when I did he didn't eat dog food anyway.

From what I understand its not government funded. So I could give a smurf less.

I'm torn. There are so many people who need it, but don't receive it, so that's unfair. But on the other hand, pets deserve quality food, too. Hmm.

ETA: Just realized that it isn't government-based. I actually like the idea of a donation-based pet food program.

It's not a government program so who cares? People are willingly paying to support someone else's pet.

If the donor doesn't have a problem, why should the general public?

Oh i didnt read the article. Ifits not goveernment funded then IDC either. Theere are just alot of things that need to be established in our government then pet food stamps.

I am torn too...like families who were doing well and have had a dog for years...and then get laid off and can't afford to feed their animals..so they get it temporarily until they find a new job.

If this is the same thing as what I read yesterday, these are not funded by the government but rather private donations. They can do what they want.

I did have to re-home my dog a few years ago due to finances. It was the hardest thing I've ever had to do. DH lost his job(s) and we were getting food from food pantrys, we had to make a choice. And our dog was just too expensive, our kids had to come first. It was the most heartbreaking thing ever. We did what was best though, and Wyatt has an awesome home (we still get updates.)

If you can't afford the food for your pet, you shouldn't have a pet. End of story.

It would be a good idea for people with service animals. For house pets, I don;t agree. If you can't afford to feed them then you shouldn't have them. If you can't buy them food then how are they paying for the vet care and other things the animals need.
