Idk much about it, but I'm fairly certain no case it typical so there's no way to say what one should be doing at any certain age.

Idk his condition. He can only say one word and has a tongue perfusion, if that gives you an idea of his condition.

A child I know. When the mom was pregnant she was informed that the child would have DS; however once he was born she was told he was fine. When he's in my care I notice that he isn't up to speed with others his age. I was only curious of what is common abilities for children with DS.

Every child with Down is different when it comes to level of ability. You cant really say all 2y/o's with downs should be able to do this, and that really goes for all kids for that matter. All children develop at different rates and can do different things earlier or later than others. What specifically does the child do or not do that concerns you?

Considering the fact that I've never really dwelt with children with DS, I guess I just want to know from parents of DS children what specifically their 2 year old does.

He can't even feed himself with a spoon.

I saw a few children with DS in early intervention and at 3 were still learning to use a spoon. If you aren't his caregiver than either suggest an eval to his parents.. Or I'm sure their ped will, if he goes to the dr. Not only that, but ALL kids are different and develope differently. Have their own strengths and weaknesses. So I wouldn't be on this quest to figure out where he's at- leave it up to the professionals and his parents.

Considering I watch him for 40 hrs a week I feel like I have the right to question.

I think your efforts would be best spent just trying to teach him what you can and dont get stressed if he does not catch on right away. If he is unable to feed himself with a spoon, maybe start there and work with him on it. Like hand over hand (where he holds the spoon and you hold his hand). Try not to worry about what he can and cant do and focus on what you can teach him with time and patience. Since you are with the child 40hr/week do you know if he has anyone coming to work with him from the public school system? I would think he would be eligible for infants and toddler services and you could have a special educator come to the home and work with him on skills.

Kids come at all different abilities and speeds regardless as to diagnosis. If he was not diagnosed with Down syndrome, then chances are he was genetically tested to see if he did in fact have the extra chromosome or not. So chances are, that isn't the case. The hospitals do the testing at birth and if his chromosomes are all in order, he doesn't have DS but could have something else, or perhaps he is just running at his own pace. He may just be a little bit slower - we come in all shapes, sizes and abilities and just because we don't run at the same speed means that there needs to be a diagnosis. If you're that concerned, I would talk to his parents.
