Watching. My daughter is 4 and is horrible in public most of the time. I have no idea why and what I can do about it. I have tried basically everything that you did! Most of the time I work my errands around when I can have someone watch her so I dont have to bring her with me!

I might have taken her in the bathroom and spanked her butt. I don't know though, DD is perfect in public but can be a monster at home.

I always tell Tanner that the second we walk in the door at home we will lose something (TV, Tablet, Games) whatever I know he doesnt want to lose.
If he is bad it will be gone for 24 hours starting the moment we get back home.
I also give him stickers. When we leave the house he has a small green (yard sale) sticker on his shirt. In my purse I have yellow and red stickers. If he starts acting up he gets a yellow. If he continues he gets a red then when I get home I physically remove his TV from his room.

Quoting 15 weeks with #3!:" I just got back from a Dr. appt with my 6 month old, 5 year old and SO's mother. My 5 year old didn't ... [snip!] ... and that she can spend time by herself to think about it. What else could I have done / can I do next time?? Thanks! "
My son is only two but he knows what's expected of him in public and what the right way to act is. I find him acting out more in public because he thinks I won't discipline but I have to, otherwise he would be a holy terror. If he acts out when we're in public, I pull him in close and quietly tell him he's acting poorly and it needs to stop, and that he will be punished if he continues. If he does, I stop what I'm doing and take him to a bathroom where he gets disciplined. Sometimes it happens multiple times but I believe consistency is key.

Its definitely hard!

Especially because my daughter is usually great at home! Its like she does it because shes in public and knows im not going to put her in a corner at the grocery store (etc) and let her scream, or raise my voice. We had a big talk before we left about her being good for SO's mom and that she would get to pick a treat afterward if she listened...

If at all possible, I remove my child from the situation completely. That's if it's not totally necessary like at the mall etc. Otherwise I try to get her to play a game of sorts, I let her know she can pick a special treat if she is the quietest big girl until we leave. I try to keep little candies and sticker sheets around.

take things away, whatever is the most precious thing at that moment, its the only thing that partially works with my son. Id say let her take something with her just to be able to have something to take away, sounds mean but its true. Make her pick something she really wants to take with her, because the last thing shes going to want is to have it taken away. Also bring snacks and reward her for being good, tell her how much you appreciate and love when she listens. How special she is when she's good and just go on gushing, they love it!

This is what I do with my son. This is what my mom does to my son if he misbehaves too.

This too. It was really hard to discipline in the beginning because of his limited understanding but now that he's older, he is attached to certain toys. So those usually get taken away first.

Although im not huge on spanking, I really felt like it today. But its not something id even do in the bathroom in public.. I know a dad that spanked his daughter in a hospital waiting room, and no one even saw, only heard... and his kids were taken away.

The same way I discipline him at home. He certainly doesn't think he can use the public as a way to act up.
