Lunch ideas for 3 year old

posted 26th Feb
Ok so I work at a daycare and we have this one parent, a single father, that packs his son every single day a chicken nugget lunchable. Well we all finally had enough and decided to talk to him about it because those lunchables are not healthy and he has not been wanting to eat them lately (don't blame the kid one bit). I printed off an article explaining why lunchables are bad and gave it to my director who copied it and gave a copy to the dad and he is at a loss on what to feed him. We suggested that he give him a variety of different meals. I don't know what this guy makes for dinner, I am just assuming that his mom either brings them a lot of meals or they eat over there. But anyways I told him I would put together a list of different things he could pack so I need some suggestions. Keep in mind this is a father that may not cook meals. (he also comes in with a gogurt and those frozen waffles every morning)

yes he seems like a great father. That's why we are trying to help him and he is very open to suggestions.

My 3 year old eats PB&J sandwiches pretty much every day. She doesn't like much else. I try to incorporate fresh fruit and veggies into every meal. Fortunately, she likes both. Some days she'll eat soup or a turkey wrap, but she is set on PB&J.

It's very tricky approaching a parent to discuss any matter. My director is very good at speaking with parents though but he didn't seem embarrassed by it at all. He has had full custody for just over a year now and we have been very helpful along the way and he appreciates the help especially his mother who buys all kinds of stuff for the room.

What about homemade lunchables?
Whole grain crackers or pita chips or english muffin
Cheese (sliced or shredded)
Chunks or slices of chicken, turkey, ham or pepperoni
Veggie or fruit

Maybe for breakfast suggest a whole grain waffle with peanut butter (or sunflower butter if there are allergies) and the yoghurt or cinnamon raisen toast.

Thank you for the suggestions. I will add them to my list.
