School and Special needs children

My 3yo is autistic and went through the Early Steps program so he is enrolled in school now since he turned 3. He has been in school for a month. I have been getting several calls for picking him up. My biggest concern as Friday. He was in a foul mad wasn't running a fever they called me wanting to pick him up. I honestly feel like the teacher doesn't want him in her class. I have tried to voice my concerns but am never able to talk to her she brushes me off in the afternoon for other parents. I spoke with the principal about my concerns she says she will talk to him. I strongly feel I should withdraw him from that school. He has become more withdrawn and is regressing. I don't want to send him to a school where he feels unwelcomed. Any suggestions?

If you do not feel the school can adequetly accomdate your child, take your child somewhere else.

Have you ever considered homeschooling? There are many community networks available locally and online. It's an excellent option, especially for kids who have any kind of special need, and homeschooled kids tend to learn a lot more than traditionally schooled kids anyway.

We are going through something similar with my little brother. He is showing signs of ADHD and (he was adopted) FAS and drug exposure. He keeps coming home telling us how the teacher treats him un fairly, she doesn't let him participate in show and tell when it is his day to go, she doesn't help him when he needs it ect. Its so sad because he is starting.to realize the teacher is picking on him and the other kids have started to do the same.

I agree!

Also, is their an EA in the classroom with him? Because the teacher probably isn't equip to handle a child with special needs and the additional children in the class.

I would say continue speaking with the principal, just so they know how concerned you are and maybe you can move him to another class or even another school in the ISD? My son is special needs, also just turned 3 and during the ARD I discussed if things weren't working out what my options were, so there are other possibilities. Hope it works out, I know how it is.

Is this a special Ed class or inclusion? If not he needs a program with qualified ecse staff. If there are ecse staff they need to do their damn job.

I have a 6 yr old autisic boy enrolled I to regular school, first year was a lot like whAt youre going thru, he was sent home every other day, I was depressed and he regressed badly, I had to put my son in the same kindergarten class again this year, after I faught and faught the teachers, after I complained so much the teachers and Ea went to a few courses and learned somethings about autism , I can honestly say the fight was well worth it, now hes been in kindergarten for 2wice and hes amazing, cant even notice the differnce between him n the other kids, it took a year to get what I wanted but the end they did theyre job and a good job at thatt, just keep fighting for him until u get what u want, or switch schools, but as an mother whos child has autism you know that switching could actually be a lot worse then staying, autistic children hate change, so u might have to start from scratch all over again, thats why I stayed a fighted

I fully understand what youre going through I went through hell, my child sat in the hallway all day when I refused to pick him up b.c I thought they were being redonkulous. Ur child deserve the best education and help, just fight call the school board, call anybody, go to his school and watch them, thats what I did. Dont let them get the upper hand, id rather fight b.c I beleive every educator should be able to educate anybody with or without a disbility, thats why I stayed. I think schools dont prepare themselfs properly to cater to everyone.

There is an assistant in the class. The school is equipped and accommodated for children with his condition. I was promised a lot of things in the beginning and since Day 1 of enrolling him I have nonstop problems. He can't talk so he can't tell me what is going on. The few words he did know he's stopped saying. He's always sucking his thumb when I pick him up and sad. He was supposed to be assigned an aide to help him since he can't walk on his own. I ended up having to give her his stroller bc that didn't happen. The school evaluated him themselves and I asked them at the meeting are they sure they could try to teach him they told me yes and here I am a month later and my happy go luck son has turned into a sad lil puppy and I don't know how to fix this :/

Thats so upsetting, my son wasnt talking either but now he is, its so difficult dealing with stuff like that, im not sure what to say, maybe u gotta switch, its so hard to switch thougb, I hope your son ends up getting all the help he needs, they need to do their job and what theyre trained to do, he shouldnt have to regress like that, theyr obviously not dedicated to himm 100 percent. Sorry to hear that. I still say call the school board

definately call the board of education. It is unfair on your child and the teacher that he wasnt assigned the teachers aid like he was promised.

What does it say in his iep about an aide? U can fight the smurf out of that if it's written in his iep. and unless he was a danger to himself or others they should not ever send him home or ask u to come up there. They should be trained in CPI to restrain a child who is a physical threat and it is not a reason to send him home unless he wouldn't stop for an extended period of time. So really there's no excuse on their part. It doesn't help routine to send him home. And I would meet with the teachers because there's no reason he should be so sad. This breaks my heart
