Opinions on having baby in the room with you?

posted 25th Feb
So, DH and I are about to be moving into a two bedroom apartment here in a couple weeks... We were talking, and he brought up putting the baby in the room with us, that way anytime our son is over (he stays with grandparents right now, long story...) he doesn't get woke up by the baby waking up. I don't exactly like the idea of having the baby in the room with us, for the simple fact that after a while, he won't want to sleep alone at all. That's how my oldest is, now. He REFUSES to sleep alone bc we are in a 1 bedroom right now, so he has to sleep in the room with us. (and there's absolutely no room in the room to really do anything...) What are your opinions on this??

I personally keep my baby in my room till 1 year. Even if they are in their own crib. It makes me feel safer. But I can see what you mean and would not give a kid that only lived with me sometimes his own room.

I kept DD in the room with us for a year and we'll be doing the same with DS. The transition from our room to her own room was harder on me than it was DD.

Personally I would make the second room into both of their rooms and co-sleep with the baby anyways.
But that's just me and I love co-sleeping with my kids.

i am due next month and i plan on keeping baby in my room with me atleast for the first few months then slowly getting him use to his own room. in my opinion if you dont get baby too use to sleeping in the same room with you, it shouldnt be too hard to get him use to sleeping alone. good luck

I'm sure... (that's another reason, bc I know it'll be hard on me to put him in his own room lol)

My LO is nearly 6 months. I find it easier to have him in the room with me. He will go into his own room sometime after 6 months when I feel ready.

My babies sleep in my room until 1 - not in my bed though

Not all babies or kids are the same

I co-slept with my oldest until she turned 4yrs, she sleeps fine in her own bedroom...my newst baby sleeps in our bedroom, but in a crib this time around.

I personally think all babies should sleep in their parents bedroom, but meh.

yeah he'll definitely be in a crib, not in the bed with us. We may end up just having him in the room with us, especially since DS#1 will be out of school by then and at our house all through the week... (btw, ladies, I don't have anything against the baby sleeping in the room with us, because for the first 2 months, I slept in the room with my first...)

yeah, that is true, not all are the same. I guess I just got used to having my first son sleeping in a separate room... We are still talking about it, of course. we still have a few months before our little monkey makes his appearance. But that'll be here before we know it...

Haha Me too! She had some health problems too, which didn't help me any. I think DS will have a hard time, he's a mama's boy. DD was just so mellow about it, being in her own room didn't bother her at all.

My son will be sleeping in the same room as me and his father. We live in a 2bdrm apartment at the moment. Our 6yr old daughter has her old room, but it is big enough for both children. However, she is in school right now and we do not want him to disturb her sleep, seeing as he will be waking up like every 3-4 hours! But, i think it is perfectly fine to have the little one in the room. Mines will be sleeping in his bassinet though

I kept my ds in the room with me until he was 3 months old. It was a lot easier on me (emergency c section) and I don't regret it at all. He had his own crib tho. I do not believe in bed sharing. I'm due in April with a girl and I'll be doing the exact same with her except I bought her a bassinet to put by my bed.
