re: CRY IT OUT METHOD HELP, please

posted 25th Feb
It was my husband that did it last night (I fell asleep I was so exhausted; not on purpose..), so I don't know 100%. I know that there were some breaks. He said she would cry/scream, then break for a minute or several, then go again.

I would like her to go to sleep in her crib without crying for so long, and without depending on us to soothe her to sleep.

I'd suggest, seriously, if you want to try a method such as "cry it out" that you should read a book about it first, maybe look up some academic articles on it. Figure out if it's something that will work with your household. It SOUNDS like you have a different idea about CIO than what the method actually intends. I don't think letting your kid cry for 2 hours in one instance will do lasting harm BUT you don't want to let it happen again if you can help it. Look up some stuff about how to do the CIO thing properly.

SHE IS A BABY FFS! If you don't soothe her who the hell is supposed to? Why is everybody in such a huge smurfing rush for their kids to grow up. Why not take every moment and cherish it?

Totally agree. Ill co sleep with my DD as long as that what makes her feel the most safe and comforted. I know co sleeping isn't for everyone but that's just me. The only time I left DD in her room was when she stayed up the whole night and I needed to regroup. She was alone for probably 2 minutes which was torture for both of us AND she made herself throw up lol never again.

My 2 year old will sleep on her own. She puts herself to bed and goes to sleep. My 4 year old on the other hand co-sleeps. He isn't comfortable or ready to sleep on his own yet which is fine by me.

I still rock my 13 month old to sleep. Some babies don't read text books on when they're supposed to be doing things and when they should do it by.

I still rock DS to sleep every night and he is 18 months old. Most of the time he isn't totally out so he does fall asleep on his own but he is my baby and I want to cherish this time.
At 6 months DS was waking up every hour and I was the only one to get up with him. Although I was exhausted it was special to me. Idk why ppl want to make their babies grow up and then miss it when it's gone :/.

OP read a few books on different sleeping training methods!

She's only six months old. Why is it so bad for her to depend in her parents???

Anyway, even if you are set on this method, you are doing it WRONG. You need to read and educate yourself before you do damage.

By the way, cry it out can actually make babes cry MORE because they know they have to cry and cry to get what they need. And cuddles are a need for an infant. If she wanted to be held during the day, you'd pick her up, right? Why doesn't that apply to bedtime?

Cylus still at 4 wakes up once a night for a drink or to go to the bathroom and then we are up for 10-20 ish minutes. Audrianna sleeps through the night most nights though

WOW... just to clarify, my husband DID go in every 10 - 15 min to check on her AND soothe her. No way was either of us going to just leave her alone for that long without some sort of consoling!
I thought this forum would be more supportive, even if you didn't agree with me...
I am honestly trying to get more guidance on the method itself so please understand I am taking care of my daughter in the best way we can.

I personally love cuddling. I know plenty of people whose 2 year olds won't cuddle anymore and I love that DD still does. I know that one day she won't want to cuddle with me or lay with me and slowly need me less. God forbid this is my last kid, I want to baby her for as long as possible. I really see no harm in that even if it means not having my bed to myself. One day she'll not want me as much so why rush her into thinking I want her to be by herself if she's not ready

First, I freaking love their names!!   great taste.

And yeah DS has slept through the night since about 9 months old. The only time he wakes is if he is sick of some sort.
Even if he got up though I'd be ok, sometimes I go in and pick him up in the middle of the night to rock him.

If she is crying for 2 HOURS obviously CIO isn't for her! Why not just let her be a baby and be cuddled to sleep?
