being a surrogate mother

posted 25th Feb
i was thinking after i had my daughter that being a surrogate mother is something i could do. i know there are a ton of emotional things you have to go through and no one ever knows if they are truly prepared. but one of my family member is trying for another baby and is having a hard time. now i was just thinking and researching about it that if she really could not have another one i would offer to be a surrogate mother. it has not come to that i dont think and its just in my head. I was just wondering for more information and personal experiences. what differs from carrying a baby of you own and not, referring to the actual pregnancy and doctor check ups and before you carry the baby. I have already had a c-section so i would again but do you have more check ups, blood tests and such. i didnt know where els i would post this but TIA

I'm pretty sure you can't be a surrogate if you had a c-section.

I've looked into in the past. Not too much though. I have always felt that when I am done having my own children that being a surrogate would be an awesome experience and gift. It is super expensive for the birth parents. If I carried someone else's child it would have to be 100% their child. I know that your health and previous births are highly scrutinized. I have gone into labor early twice (baby #2 was 36 weeks baby #3 was 35 weeks). So I am not eligable to be a surrogate. There are also many laws to research when it come to surrogacy and they differ from state to state.

thanks! ya i realize that they have very high expectations for a surrogate mother but just wondering what the general expectations are during the pregnancy.

I think doctor visits an things like that are up to the surrogate parent. The family cannot force thier way into your appointments, but you also have to remember it is their child. I have heard of some cases where the surrogate had to sign papers saying she will not drink, do drugs, or partake in any dangerous activities.

I just saw on one site that a surrogate couldn't have sex for the duration of the pregnancy!
