Choosing the right career path

posted 25th Feb
Ill try to keep this short and sweet.

I graduate next semester with an associates in science.
Ive always wanted to be in the medical field. It started with nursing, but I'm not sure that I could handle the blood (idk if its something i would just "get over").

Which brings me to occupational therapy. Id love to be able to help special needs kids learn how to do everyday activities despite their disabilities. However, my MIL said that there have been a lot of budget cuts for the special needs and elderly for access to an occupational therapist which worries me because I dont want to get my Masters Degree and not be able to have a use for it, you know?

Sorry if its all over the place, my mind is just so jumbled. I have two babies that I have to provide for and choosing the wrong path would make me feel so guilty

This may be cliche, but it's true. There is no right and wrong.

You can go for what you want to do, and work hard to find a job in that field and keep at it-- or you can go for something you know you can make lots of money doing and maybe not like.

That doesn't sound like the most absurd path you could take to try and make a living, it's not like you're going for a major in pencil sculpture or something, yaknow?

u could still get a job with the county or city, my mom is gaurdian to her downs brother, there's case managers, and the therapist that come out all the time to her house, a lot of the regional centers are getting downsized, but u would be working directly with the kids...

Considering children with disabilities are protected by IDEA and are required to receive necessary services I don't see how they could legally deny children with special needs services.

Go into what you have a passion for. Don't worry about the job later. What matters is that u do what you're going to love. The field I am in pays like smurf, but I hit a crossroads where I had to decide what was more important, money or happiness. I chose happiness and will do it again.
