Food for wedding reception

posted 25th Feb
Okay so when we have our wedding reception (May 3rd, 2014) we are going to make the food instead of getting it from somewhere. What are some good ideas for food to have? Stuff that is more simple, but still filling would be great lol. Any ideas??

I would go Italian.

Apps - Bruscetta, meats and cheese with crusty bread, meatballs, baked ravioli
Starter - Italian Wedding Soup and Caesar Salad
Main - Lasagna, Stuffed Shells, Cannelloni
Dessert - Individual Tiramisu and Wedding Cake.

ETA: All the mains could be made and frozen ahead of time.

Lol! That would be a good idea..Maybe some type of pasta dish, sandwiches/wraps, or something? Heck I don't know lol. I just don't know what to do without it being too "casual" I guess..if you know what I mean ha

I agree with everyone else, I say go with Italian. You can easily put everything in the aluminum pans and get the warmers to put under them so they stay warm.

You can do fancier with Italian.

I think speaktruth had some great suggestions... if you want to go a little more formal maybe add some seafood into the mix?

Yeah I saw that! Definitely sounds like a good idea.

Should I do a certain dish for vegetarians?

You can do the stuffed shells as vegetarian. The ones I make have 4 different kinds of cheese and spinach. They are amazing little bits of heaven.

You could also do a vegetarian Lasagna.

Hmm. I mean, you could always do 2 pasta dishes, one without meat-- or you could just do the pasta all without meat and have meat (meatballs, or what have you) in a separate heat tray so if people want that they can get it but veggies don't have to go without.

We had ours catered but it was simple. The kids got chicken fingers and smiley fries.
The adults got a salad, pasta, chicken, roast beef green beans, red skinned potatoes dinner rolls.

Whenever I make a pasta dish like shells I don't put meat, and then I make meatballs on the side.
