How often should I pump?

posted 25th Feb
My two day old isn't latching and my milk just came in very heavy! How often should I pump without going too much and making myself super engorged?

I would pump as often as she is going to eat. So like every two-three hours and probably just enough to feel confertable.

Every 2 hours. You want to be pumping as often as LO is eating. Do you have a LC to help you with latching? You can always watch videos on youtube for getting a proper latch.

We're working on the latching, she's got jaundice and while my milk wasn't coming in, we had to supplement her to clear out that bilirubin. Since we did that, she has stopped latching properly. How long should I be pumping per session? I feel like I could pump all night at this point. Lol.

You want to empty the breast as much as you can and pump for about 5 minutes after that to tell your body to make more milk.

I pumped about 15-20 min on each side. Thats what my LC told me to do. I hope she starts to latch better for you   My son didn't latch well until my milk came in and then he wouldn't let go hardly once he figured it out.

Every 2 hours. 15-20 minutes each breast. It's best to use a electric double-pump..

Okay awesome. So my breasts are super engorged. I emptied them both as much as possible, but they are still painful and feel hard as rocks... any way to remedy this, and is it normal for when your milk first comes in?
