Scared! My unborn baby has a broken femur.

posted 24th Feb
I am 33 weeks pregnant with my third and final child. This pregnancy itself has been easy but when i had my 20 week ultrasound, they found my daughter had a broken femur. I have been going to doctors every week since then and I still have no answers on how this could have happended or how this is going to affect my baby when she is born. I have had nothing happen to me (car accident, fall) nothing. But the doctor told me on friday that her leg has started to heal so they will need to rebrake her leg. I am devestated. I dont want to see my baby be in any kind of pain. And the doctors are saying she could have so many different disorders and we cant test till after birth. And because this is so uncommon we dont have any idea what to expect. I am so scared my baby will have to go through hell and back, i wish it could be me instead of her. Just needed to vent. But if you read this please say a prayer for our princess.

I've never heard of that happening, poor baby. I hope it's nothing serious and is just a freak incident. Good luck, hope she's ok!

The only thing I can think of that would cause this is osteogenesis imperfecta but from what I know that's fairly rare

Osteogenis imperfecta is something that they are testing for. there are alot of different stages so that is one of the reasons she cant have surgury right away. They want to know what they are dealing with. Her other bones are growing as they should and no more abnormalties have been found. Thank you for the prayers and good wishes

A friend's baby had that and had several broken bones before birth just from moving and kicking around inside.

A girl I used to work with has OI. She's 34 weeks pregnant, and they just found out her unborn child has it too. I'm not sure how they found it out before she was born, because the baby didn't have any broken bones.

I would ask your ob if you could be tested before birth since it can be done

Good luck op!!

the problem with testing of any kind before birth is that they need to put a needle in and get it through all the linings into the baby so therefore, it can cause leakage and potentially harm or even, in worse cases, kill the baby. they won't do this kind of procedure unless it is a matter of life and death in most cases. so in all honesty, i wouldn't even tamper with it until your baby is born my love. it's far too risky when what's wrong with your baby will probably be taken perfectly good care of when you have her!

Ahh I didn't know that. The girl I know Acted like they just found out thru an ultrasound. I wouldn't do the invasive testing either
