should i let my baby cry

posted 24th Feb
Please dont bash my parenting choice. I let my daughter cry at night until she started sleeping the whole night. (took like 4 days) When I started the process when she woke up at night I would pick her up and rock her until she went back to sleep without a bottle. Now I want to do it with my son who is at the age I did it with her. The only thing is that my daughter didnt drink formula as much as my son. She had a 8oz bottle like every 6 or 7 hours during the day, & during the night woke up like twice to get a bottle. My son however has started waking up 5 times every night for a bottle. Im afraid if he is crying its because hes hungry, even during the day he drinks a bottle every like 2 hours. My son also doesnt like to get rocked or cuddled. Sooooo should I wait longer with him then I did with my daughter?

CIO is ineffective. The reason he is crying for more formula is likely a growth spurt. Also, don't ignore that when you lay down a baby and the fuss, it could be an ear infection or reflux. Those are agitated when they are flat on their backs.

They cry for communication. Do your best to decipher the need. Babies don't all sleep the night until sometimes about a year and a half. Since your son is rounding the year mark, I am going with growth spurt. Acknowledge it and know it will pass.

My twins didn't sleep the night until they were almost 2. My son did at 4 months and now at 2 1/2 he gets up in the middle of the night and wanders into my room. Just a kid thing.

I feel he is old enough to go with out the bottle at night.
Is he eating solids yet? To me that sounds like a lot of milk at his age.

Why would you make him go without a bottle at night if he is hungry. Also that much milk is a good thing seeing as he should be relying on milk for all his nutrients.

Growth spurt time is my guess. That or he has reflux. 5 times could be an exaggeration.

Thanks for the info about your son. My son also started sleeping the night very early. From around 4months-7months he was sleeping the whole night once in a while just wanted one bottle. Now he is waking up a bunch. I dont mind waking up for my babies at all. I just didnt know if maybe I should be getting him busy with more stuff during the day to start spreading out his feedings.

5 times is the exact amount. I get his bottles ready at night before I go up to bed & he always using that exact amount. 5-5ounce bottles. some bottles will have a little left but normally he drinks it all.

Growth spurt then. It is about the time.

You could try feeding him some solids before bed and an 8oz bottle. That might take out a feeding or two.

Does he nap? It sounds stupid but a baby who naps will also sleep well at night. I didn't believe it but, it is true.

My son doesn't nap anymore unless he has worn off all his energy for the day. He is full of energy to go go go. He has more than my twins did combined!! Lol
