Newborn & Projectile Vomiting

posted 24th Feb
DS is 13 days old and exclusively breastfed. He burbs well after he nurses (he only nurses off of one breast per feeding). He spits up just a teeny bit after he burbs. I always keep him elevated after he nurses just to avoid spit ups and vomit. Just about an hour ago after he nursed, he burped good amd I let him fall asleep on my chest. Then I put him in his bouncer so I could answer the phone. Once I came back, he projectile vomited a lot. It was all over the carpet. He didn't even get any on himself or the bouncer. Is he sick? His temperature is normal and he seems fine now. The vomit was mainly clear with some breastmilk. Could it be acid reflux?

could more acid reflux! my son does the same thing. i can't tell you how many times he has projectile vommited. i was changing his diaper one day, and he projectile vommited everywhereeeere! it went in my hair, i had to give him a bath at 3 in the morning. i would take him to the doctor. they can try him on zantac, but that did not work for my son so they are referring him to a gastro doctor. either way, i'd talk to your doctor about it!

I'm going to call Monday morning. I assume acid reflux since we've already dealt with it with DD her first year. Could he already have it at only two weeks old?

Sometimes babies just vomit. My son did it all over me (around 4 weeks) while I was out for the day once. It was awful! Luckily, it went all down the inside of the dress I was wearing and I was also wearing a slip under the dress. It went inside the slip by some sheer miracle so I took that off and chucked it

DS never had any reflux issues or anything. I was changing him after he was fed for once because just as I'd finished, he did a big poo and I couldn't leave him like that. So it either forced the vomit up while he was doing that or my laying him down and then picking him up brought it up.

I would request your doctor do an ultrasound on your lo's tummy if he's projectile vomited a lot. At 2 Weeks my son had to have surgery due to hypertrophic pyloric stenosis. Basically themuscle leading away from his stomache was enlarged and not letting food through. It's a simple simple surgery but something to certainly ask about.

I'm not sure if I should contact his pediatrician tomorrow or not. He only projectile vomited that one time today and hasn't since.

i personally wouldn't call if it was just that one time, if he continues to do it i would of course take him in. but if it makes you feel better then yes call, and just let them know!

My SIL is the receptionist there that makes the appointments, I'll just text her in the morning and let her know.

If he keeps projectile vomiting you should call your pedi. My son started at around 2 weeks and it just got worse and worse went to the ER twice and they didnt do anything. Called the pediatrician after a weekend of hell where nothing was staying down, just tried to sleep the weekend away which we managed to do and he lost a pound. His doctor got him admitted they did an ultrasound and found pyloric stenosis like a previous poster said. Needed a surgery to correct it. I guess it appears in boys more often and at around this age. Good luck, I hope there's no more vomiting
