What is she riding in now?

Every step up in a car seat is a step DOWN in safety fyi.

If you're asking about a booster seat, no she is not ready. The bare minimum is 4 yrs and 40lbs,plus the ability and discipline to always sit correctly in the booster; not slouching no sleeping, no moving around etc.

How long have you had your carseat? what are the weight and height restrictions on her car seat? How do the straps fit her right now? Is she still rear facing? How far is her head from the top of the seat? How tall is she?

Depends what the height/weight limits are for your current seat.

My 4 year old has a Graco Nautilus which she'll be able to use until it expires

It depends on what kind of carseat you currently have. As long as her ears are not within an inch of the top of the seat and her shoulders are not above the top slot she can stay in what she has now. To put her in a booster (with just the seatbelt no harness) I believe she would need to weigh 40 lbs...I dont think she will gain 4 lbs in the next 5 months tho.

You should be ok for a while. Maybe see if you can get some kind of convertible seat in the near future. We have the nautilus, it has a harness up to like 65lbs or something and then you can remove the harness and use it as a highback booster or remove the back and use it as just a booster...up to 100lbs.

What car seat do you currently have? Is it less than 6 years old?

40lbs seems like a really low weight limit on a ffing car seat.

Is she still within the height limits? shoulders can't be over the highest harness slots, and her ears can't be over the shell of the seat.

I'd looking into gettibg a combination seat like the Gracious Nautilus or Argos or the Britax Frontier, which will keep her harnessed longer til at least 65lbs, then can be used as a belt positioning booster

i have a graco one love it but i use it for my friends daughter because her SO mom bought her a USED seat and her daughter was a prmiee no way in hell is she getting in my car with a seat thats USED.... Wish i still had another RF seat so i could put her in RF since her adjusted age is like 18 months.... Im looking at a frontier for my son because of the new LATCH guidelines next year. My current seat put the belt path threw it is a PITA, there no belt path it goes between the seat and the cover on the seat.

22 years old?! Car seats expire after 6 years, definitely time for a new one.

That seat would most likely fail in a car accident.
