The Heartbeat Bill D&D

In Ohio there is a heartbeat bill, basically criminalizing abortion in some states. Makes me sick. I believe if a woman wants an abortion-no matter the reason she should be able to get one. Especially in cases like this one, this woman was happy to be pregnant but found out that her baby did not form right and was not going to live if they were actually carried to term and born. She had to fight for her right to get an abortion and in the end, the baby did not have a heartbeat anyways. It's sad that so many people want to ban abortion and having this Heartbeat Bill making it harder for a woman to get an abortion is just silly.
Thoughts/opinions?

Ugh. This reminds me of that recent case in Ireland where the woman had a pregnancy incompatible with life for mother or fetus, but was unable to get a D&C because the fetus still had a heart beat. Well, she died in the hospital and no one did a thing to help her, all because of a stupid law like this one. Dead, gone, won't ever be anyone's mother now. All to protect a non-viable pregnancy that ultimately resulted in the fetuses death anyways.

I almost hate to bring up the "but what about the loving mothers who wanted a healthy pregnancy!" examples, because it just perpetuates the idea that there are good or bad abortions. Nope, sorry, if you have a uterus it's none of my damn business what you do with it or why you choose to do so. But still, it's important to remember these regulations don't just screw over women seeking abortions for personal reasons, it can make life hell for all women. Some of these abortion proposals going around right now restrict stem cell research, all the way to fertility treatments (say goodbye to most IVF clinics). Don't even get me started on those mandatory transvaginal ultrasound bills. So unethical to put women through.

I think it is stupid. I have always thought a woman's body is her business, I would not want someone telling me what I can and cannot do with my body.

Doesn't the heartbeat bill kind of require a fully functioning heart? Because that doesnt happen til about 21 weeks.

Also this is the kind of smurf that killed that poor woman in Northern Ireland.

I hope nothing like this gets passed!
My sil was in a very similar position/situation as the story you mentioned. Luckily where we live women still have the right to make that decision if/when needed and most have the support of there Dr's.

Ultimately Roe vs Wade takes care of most of legislation like that. There are ways around it, like what is going on in Mississippi, technical loop holes they have used to run all the abortion clinics out of the state. It honestly is a shame. I don't give a smurf why you want to get an abortion, but I do care about your ability to choose to whether or not to have one.

It'll never pass. They're always trying to get these types of bills to go through and it never happens.

That being said, there ARE states where abortion is illegal, thus making it a criminal offense to get one.

See, its smurf like this that makes me mad. Because an nonviable life is worth a productive member of society? I would seriously consider moving to South Africa if smurf like that ever got passed here. I don't ever plan on needing to get an abortion at this point in my life but I'll be damned if someone tells me I don't even have the option if I wanted to think about it.

Do they do abortion stings and throw the mothers in jail and take the babies once they're born, and put them in our overpopulated orphanages only to release these parent-less kids onto the streets at 18?

This should really make the world a better place.

Exactly. This hardcore pro life stuff is basically just a way of saying "sorry women, you are still worth absolutely nothing more than popping out babies". It has absolutely nothing to do with protecting children and absolutely everything to do with misogyny and oppressing women. A massive percentage of women seeking abortions already have living children at home, so naturally who gives a smurf if those kids lose their mother. As long as the nonviable fetus makes it an extra week, those kids will totally understand losing mommy.. I live in Canada where I thought we were safe, but the goddamn women's minister voted in favor of reevaluating when life begins in an effort to change abortion regulations, and I still can't walk around without my living, breathing child being exposed to some hateful jackass standing on the street holding those horrible FAKE posters of "aborted fetuses". You know the ones that look full term and covered in blood for shock value's sake, despite having nothing to do with just about every abortion's reality. Because that's the ethical thing to do of course, rob women of the right to their own bodies, lie to prove a point, and expose small children to violent imagery. Theyre doing "gods work". Argh, this smurf just kills me.

If crap like that is ever put into place you guys are more than welcome to come get a D&C/abortion in Canada.

I agree a woman should be able to have an abortion at her discretion. This bill was never signed into law though, thankfully. It sounds like in the article it was her insurance company and doctor's office that was the problem, not Ohio law.
