Not tipping a bad waitress? [D&D]

posted 23rd Feb
So my mom & I went out to eat at pizza hut today & the waitress there was awful. She didn't bring us several things (napkins, straws, silverware, ect.) we asked for & we asked many times. We had to reuse dirty napkins & share forks. She brought out breadsticks that looked dried out & flaky that we sent back to have the seasonings & stuff put on it (mostly the cook's fault but still, i would have been embarrassed to serve it to people). After she brought our food she didn't check back not one time to see if we needed anything. But there was a bunch of guys in a table near us that she checked on about a dozen times & gave plenty of her attention to. My mom said that if we were guys we'd probably would have gotten service. And the restaurant was not busy at all. We was the only people there for a while. Then when we wasn't even halfway through eating she brings us our ticket, kinda like she didn't wanna be bothered by us anymore. She didn't even ask if we needed any to go boxes (like all the other waitresses there do). I normally don't complain about stuff but she was a really sucky waitress. Needless to say, she did not get a tip from us & normally I always leave a tip.

I know waitresses/waiters don't make much money & rely on tips to make up the difference. But do you think it's still necessary to tip a bad waitress/waiter who provides bad/no service?

bad service = no tip.

If you don't want to do the job, then you shouldn't get paid to do it.

I've never not tipped, but I left one lousy waitress a dollar, because she was slow, rude and inattentive.

I have never not left a tip. I have been serving for 10 years and I have never made more than $200 on a paycheck (2 weeks pay) because we get paid so much. In my opinion if you got food than its your responsibility to tip. I might be in the minority, but that is how I feel.

Bad service = Small or NO tip.

A tip is a thank you.

I always tip. But if they suck I do it in nickels! Just to see the look on their face. I also have left a 50 cent tip and told the lady not to spend it all in one place. But that was one time and she was awful! I probably would have left 50 cents in pennies for your waitress though.

I was taught and teach my trainees that TIPS stands for "To Insure Proper Service" You didn't get anything close to that. She did not earn a tip I feel you were justified in not leaving her a tip. However leaving a penny pisses waitresses (or at least the ones I know) more than leaving nothing.

I worked in the service industry. I waited tables and bartended, if I was doing a smurf job, I expected it to reflect in my tips. Even if there is s hold up in the kitchen, I could always do my best to make my guests comfortable as they waited and have the manager take care of the situation.

I get where you're coming from.
But what was annoying was she literally just took our order, brought us the food, & then the ticket. No service from her besides that. But yet she gave plenty of service to the table full of guys beside us.

This is true. We can't all be outstanding all the time! However, I can think of one waitress in particular who always sucks, lol. Don't know how she keeps a job!
