I can't stiff people, I just can't. Many factors can cause terrible service & in our case I know it was how they operate. 1 cook all of the time. The waitress was frustrated, but if I were in her shoes I'd be switching to a better run establishment.

Not me!!! Lol forget that noise!! I have handed a tip to the busser as I have left and not the waitress before ;-) especially if they are the one to have been refilling our drinks, clearing empty dishes and running our food. That is the job of the waitstaff.

There are many factors IMO when it comes to tipping. Its not just black and white gold service/bad service. I provided less than the best service last night at work, but it was a full dining room and I was the only server, I still got great tips on not so great service because people could see I was trying (I assume anyway), even if the service wasnt great.

Quoting kate♥[j&a]:" So my mom & I went out to eat at pizza hut today & the waitress there was awful. She didn't bring ... [snip!] ... tips to make up the difference. But do you think it's still necessary to tip a bad waitress/waiter who provides bad/no service?"

Helll no. If they want their tips bad enough they will give good service.

You checked on them, you were likely polite and as attentive ad you could be. They also probably found you accommodating rather than seeing you standing around gossiping.
