I live in a small town. There is a terrible family here that is known not to tip. They are on every form of assistance you can get and have $ to eat out once a week. It has got to the point that the regulars in the town have been leaving the tip for the waitstaff who had to deal with them. They are pigs with their 4 kids and the husband talks inappropriately all the time. I agree they exsist. Sadly.

yikes!
we were at logan's roadhouse once, and the people sitting behind us complained about every single part of their meal. You could tell they do this sort of thing regularly to get free meals

I always leave some sort of tip. Usually 20%. But if they sucked, I would probably leave like $2. Tips are simply an extra "thank you."
Part of dining out is getting someone else to cook/serve for you, which deserves a tip, however the other part of dining out is enjoying your meal and experience. If the waitress cannot provide that, then they do not deserve extra money.

Yeah, we have plenty of those, they do have their 'seasons'. We have one lil old man who tips in candy (only). Under no circumstances do we eat that candy... Then you have people who are loaded and leave you 2$ after bragging to the mgr. about your wonderful service. I will say we have some who don't get to come out to eat much, but when they do tip verrry well, even though you know they certainly aren't well-to-do.

The way we look at it is, if you treat us right, we'll hook you up with a damn good tip. If you suck and you ignore us and pay more attention to your buddies or the hot girls/guys at the next table, the only 'tip' you'll get is to do a better job. It's a gratuity, you get it as a thank you. I don't HAVE to tip anything if you mess up, I'm not your employer.
We've left nothing before and spoken to management about really poor service, and we've left 40 bucks on a 50 dollar bill before. We treat people who do their jobs and take care of us very well.

Gretta foff paules wrote a great article about the whole tipping phenomena and how waitstaff see it differently than restaurant patrons. The difference between "getting" and "making" a tip.

I had something similar to this happen the other night. All our pizzas go through the same oven and this man insisted his pizza was undercooked, nobody else complained but we made a new one anyway. Complained again. Ended up discounting his bill to ten dollars. He had a ten dollar coupon :/

Bad service = no tip. SO is a cook and I have not tipped the waitress on his clock.. he agreed with me, she failed! She even had the nerve to tell him, "your girlfriend should be embarrassed". Lol

I agree. I was patient for a while and after 30 minutes of waiting to pay & seeing her continue to serve drinks to other patrons got me pissed. my BFF was surprised I still left a decent tip. I plan to do a trip advisor review

If I get bad rude or bad service I leave a tip that reflects it. Usually like 5%.. Servers are not entitled to tips. They have to earn them by really taking care of the customers. I understand if the place is real busy but I don't want to see a server never checking up on my table when it is slow.

I see people complaining about the service yet still tipping. Wtf?
