New cat
posted 23rd Feb
We just got a new cat Thur night. He's been hiding under beds and in closets since bringing him home. He comes out and night and cries. He's came up to me a few times for pets and he'll purr and meow so I know he's got it in him, but he's still super shy and confused. His previous owners said he's a good cat, people person kitty, social, etc. so I know it's a matter of time, but how long does it usually take a cat to warm up to humans and become socially okay in a new home? He's such a sweet kitty and I can't wait until he climbs in my lap for pets here and there.

A couple days. We got a rescue kitty on Christmas Eve, it took her about 3 days to actually come out and want to be around us.

A few days. When set aside a room for the cat to adjust in with her food, water, and litter box, and she hid for the most part the first day or so but slowly started to come out and explore. Now she would come running as soon as we came in the house for snuggling. Just give the kitty time. It's scary moving to a new place for a cat.

^^ what they said.
sometimes even a week or TWO.
Cats do things at their own pace for sure.

Yeah, he's a cool cat. Sweet as can be. I have faith. Just curious what the average time is for them. He climbed up on our bed a few times last night for a pet, but then would hop off and go back under the bed. He's already purring when petted too.
