How do i help my son?

posted 23rd Feb
Hes a little bit quirky, not like any other kid i know. I love him and accept him, but he has a hard time making friends. He likes to quotes movies a lot and uses words like i have a dream about drinking water on a hot day. For example today a older kid came to the door, and asked him for him to play. When He came to the door he jumped with excitement and said thank you for being my friends. Kids make fun of him like when he falls off the monkey bars and he says oh no this is not part of the plan. kids laugh. How can i help him?

please dont comment if you dont have anything nice to say.
Thanks!

Is it not meant to be funny when he says "Oh no, this is not part of the plan"?

That reminds me of my little brother. He always says the strangest things, to me and family it's funny. But kids have always given him a hard time. He is 13 now and accepts his self and doesn't care what others say.

Are they laughing because he is funny with the one liners or are the laughing because he got hurt?

Battling the social awkwardness is a hard one.. I would try to find a similar "style" of kid and have them hang out.. you really cant change them. Or maybe you could try just explaining to him why the other kids laugh, but in a kind, non spirit crushing way. He'll find friends! I know one kid who's kinda like that, he's 7 now. He was running around playing tag but would stop occasionally and say "Me ouch! Me ouch!" (like "meow" but with the ch at the end..) and his mom had to explain that when he did that the other kids didn't know how to react because they had probably never seen the movie that it was from.

How old is he?

Is he socialized besides school? By that I mean, was it just you and him with no play dates?

Is it a possibility for you to get him involved in a sport or something? Something that is confidence building as well as helping him with social skills away from his peers at school.

He sounds awesome, alot like my girl.
I would just keep encouraging him to be who he is, How old is?
With my daughter I feel like when they dont understand what she is trying she is trying to do or say or talking about she will start to get aggressive.

Well, to them it is a funny thing to say and they probably look at him as the funny kid. To him, it is a serious thing. Almost like they are on different levels.

I think that what he said is cute. I would have taken it as him shrugging off the miss step and ready to try again. Then again, I am an adult and that is how's brain works.

Did you ask him what he fully meant when he said that? I can't help but wonder if he doesn't think at a level higher than he himself is comprehending. If that makes sense.
