Baby clothes for the hospital?

posted 10th Jun
I'm steadily packing my hospital bag, and was curious as to what you ladies ended up packing for the baby to wear?? I have a onsie, and her "going home outfit. Do I even need the onsie, or will she probably just hang out in the hospital in a diaper and receiving blanket? Also, did any of you pack a "just in case" premie onsie/outfit? I'm overly paranoid that she is just going to be very small. What is the average weightwhere they consider your baby to bea premie?

My hospital provided lil shirts for them while they were there. I'm glad too, because he got blood on them from being poked!

The hospitals I've delivered at both gave blankets for swaddling and these wrap shirts you have to be a damned rocket scientist to figure out.

For going home, my boys both wore the same sleeper, just three years apart.

I would pack one premie and one newborn going home outfit and MAYBE a onsie. Our hospital provided little outfits for him to wear while we were there and we just needed the going home outfit. I only packed a newborn one and he was 3 wks early and 6 lbs 14 oz, so that didn't fit him. LoL

lylian as average weight 7lbs 9 oz and i prolly could have put her in preemie. at the hospital she mostly wore a onesie a hat they had there because the ones we had didnt fit her(too big) and sockies and she was always swaddled in a blankie.

Your baby is considered a preemie by when they were born, like 35 weeks, not by their weight or height. Some full term babies can fit into preemie clothes. I would bring a preemie outfit just in case. Most hospitals put your baby in some type of shirt.

Mine also provided the shirt & then they stay wrapped up in a blanket also. I packed a coming home outfit & that is really all you need, besides a blanket. They get poop & pee on everything! My kids were 8lbs 7oz & 8lbs 2oz & they both fit into preemie clothes better than newborn. Someone had accidentally bought a preemie outfit & it fit better than the newborn did.

I packed a take home outfit, and a gown. I packed the gown because if she's smaller or bigger than anticipated then she would fit in that.

as far as the "extra" for preemie outfit... Lana weighed 8lb10oz and she could fit preemie, the sizes are so funny... we a had a few outfits as hand-me-downs... but i just let her hang out in the hospital t-shirt while we were there other than the take home, we had her in a dress for take home outfit... but my sister had a different sleeper for each day for her baby... so people do it either way... but i figured i'd deal with a few xtra pieces of saved laundry since we took advantage of the hospital baby tees

I packed a little preemie size outfit for him, but I ended up just bringing him home in the t shirt they gave him and a receiving blanket, it just seemed easier for diaper changing lol

Wonderful! Thank you ladies! I've been doing her clothes, and even though the "newborn" onsies and such are SO tiny, I still can't imagine a baby that big in my belly! lol. I'll definitely be packing a premie onsie- I'm not sure what my hospital provides them to wear. Thank you again!

my son is a week old now and he fits in new born onsies, but he was 21inches at birth and now he's 21.5

it's funny because the new born clothes look so little but once you see your baby compared to them they look huge lol

keep in mind they wanna be warm.. I ended up seriously overpacking..
even if they're too big i wouldn't worry..

if i was 35+ weeks pregnant, i'd pack a blanket, a warm going home outfit, hat, socks, a couple thick pj's for me (dressy type), socks for me, and comfy going home outfit for me where the pants are sweat pants..

oh a hairband to keep my hair up and a couple ties..

this was a newborn onesie, but it was very small to me compared to other NB sized things i had, and it was kind of big on her still. we just took her home in this because goign hoem wasnt really a big deal, nobody was goign to be there. so we kept her comfy. she just wore her fancy dress for her prof pic.
