For those who are choosing/chose to use disposable diapers..

posted 23rd Feb
My fiancé is worried about having enough diapers for our little man before he's even here. Ive seen a bunch of sales for disposable diapers but not sure if/when I should buy them before he's here?

I try to think of it in terms of TP for us adults; should you really splurge for the 200+ count box of diapers at first or just buy a little pack until you need to run to the store to buy more?

Cloth diapers are something he's not wanting to try due to having to wash out the poo and whatnot every time LO is done with a diaper.

You should get the big boxes, you will never not use 200 diapers with a newborn lol But don't open it until the baby is born, just in case the baby turns out to be underweight or bigger than average so you can get the next size up or down with a quick exchange if needed   And you end up saving money when you buy in bulk usually

Buy a lot. You go through 10+ diapers A DAY. And if its the sizes you're concerned about you can always exchange the diapers as LO gets bigger. Trust me I got a bunch of size 1 diapers at my baby shower(diaper raffle) And they went QUICK.

ETA: DS never wore newborn diapers so don't go overboard with those.

I would buy a couple of packs of newborn diapers and a pack or two of size one. Your LO might not be in the newborn size long, so you don't want to be left in the lurch if that happens and not have any size 1 on hand. Or, there is the g diaper. It's like a cloth diaper, but it has a disposable lining, and that lining is biodegradable so it's better for the environment than disposables.

You WILL need the big boxes. Lol But like she said ^^about not opening it incase they don't fit. But I wouldn't get more than one 200 count box of newborns, and then I'd already start at 1's and 2's. They will be in those longer than newborns.

You can exchange open boxes even if they're missing diapers.

I'd buy like....a box of newborn ones and a box or 2 of size ones, they should last a while.
You save money buying the bigger boxes and newborns go through diapers like crazyyyy.

Big boxes, are your friend, especially with a newborn. I swear they pee CONSTANTLY. As soon as one diaper is changed, the next one is dirtied. It's just that fast.

For NB diapers, buy a few brands in case there is a sensitvity/allergy, and don't open them so that if they need to be returned they can - MOST babies go into NB, but some need preemie, and some go straight to size 1.

aside from newborns, you should always get the big box you go through them way faster than you think. My LO wasn't in newborns but for maybe a couple of weeks then we moved on to 1's. I tired giving them away and then decided to keep any of the ones opened for when I have another child. If you are wanting to stalk up i'd start from size 1 or 2 and go up from there. I wouldn't would splurge on a lot of newborns

I would buy a small pack of newborns and a big box of ones. My son was 8lbs 4oz (born at 36+2) and he was only in newborn diapers for less than a week. Then he went straight into size 1 (which he was only in until he was about 5 weeks) then to size 2, which he is still in at 11 weeks.
