How old is to old?

We had a swimming party for the kids at an indoor pool. The kids invited were all 5-7 years old along with their parents and whatever siblings came along.

When we were leaving, most of the kids went with their moms into the locker room both boys and girls. Most of the kids were pretty modest but there were a few that just stripped out of their suit right in front of anyone. It didn't bother me but DH said that he thought that at age the boys should go to the men locker room/Bathroom.....I disagree my son is 6 and if I take him somewhere with just me and my girls then he goes with us into the bathroom/locker room what ever ( I do look for a family bathroom though) and I told DH that if he has the girls with him that he needs to find a family bathroom or take them into the bathroom with him

What do you think is "to old" to allow a boy/girl in the opposite gender locker room

my kids don't go in the men's restroom. we go in the women's. they're 3 and 5. my 5 year old actually goes into the entire bathroom by herself now (unless it's super busy) and i wait at the door. i don't think i would take my 6 year old son into a women's "private" area. maybe before kindergarten... but not after.

6-7 is getting to be the limit. After that it just seems weird. We went to a museum the other day and a woman took her 8 year old ( guessing) into the women's bathroom. It felt very awkward.

Over 6. At 7 they should be total capable of going in a bathroom to change their clothes..

I would just wait at the door for him.

I'd have to say 6-7yo. Our son is 8yo and he's been going into the Men's bathroom by himself for a while...I just wait at the door.

I don't think I'd send my kid into the opposite changeroom (of me) without me. If my husband is present, he takes our son in... but if it's just me, I think it'd be a little weirder for me to go into the mens room if my son needed my help, than it would be for a 6-7 year old boy to go into the womans washroom.

IMO by 7 they are old enough to go in alone and have the parent wait outside.

It depends on the situation and how mature your child is. If my son was 7 years old and mature enough to handle himself in the men's locker room and it was somewhere that I wasn't concerned about his safety or if someone could go with him... I think he should go to the men's room.

If I didn't trust him alone, or we were somewhere that I wanted him to stay close/no -one else to bring him... I'd take him to the locker room with me.

I don't generally think that 5-7 is too old to be changing by the pool.... but I do think they should be covered. There are perverts in the places you least expect. BUT, I know my son wouldn't want to change in front of anyone regardless... and he's five. He even gets annoyed having to come into the women's room with me. He states, quite proudly... "I'm a man!"

My boys are 7&9 and if my husband wasn't there to take them to the men's room, thenI wouldn't want to take them into an area where little girls or grown women can be seen changing. I would wait or take them into a stall for privacy.

I think the hard decision for some isnt just the age, but if its safe. A small child cant protect themselves in another room with no windows or cameras...so they take them to the female bathroom (or male if its the father).
