Little Kid- Swimming Pool- Dressing Room HELP

posted 23rd Feb
So. apparently little kids over the age of 5 are not welcome in the locker rooms of the opposite sex- And I'm taking my son who is 5 swimming tomorrow. I've also paid for private lessons and a membership. So I've been thinking about this all night. I don't want him in the mens locker room without me and honestly, he might refuse.

It is REALLY cold this time of year, but I'm thinking I will buy a larger warm robe, so we can do a quick towel dry and then just head home in our swim clothes. Is that really dumb?

Why the heck can't a 5 year old go into the women's locker room? That is so stupid!

Because although there is safety, they have to think of the privacy rights of other members.

Dafuq?! That's absurd. I mean understand the whole "privacy" thing, but seriously, that's a little crazy. If the mom + dad (or if there was a female + male) together with the little boy/girl I'd understand them wanting the little ones to go according to gender. But if its just one-on-one and they are the opposite sex, that's not right.. Anything can happen..

I would do what you suggested. Can you also do cover ups? (Like for girls they have those bath robe dresses things.

Oh geeze
What do they expect mom's with their "older, but not old" boys to do then?
I'd seriously probably call and ask them what they suggest..

I guess you could pat dry, put on a big fuzzy robe, slip off the wet trunks and go home like that if you absolutely had to. sounds kinda comfy

I'm leaving early to hit up Kohls and Target. I think I saw some boys robes with hoods the last time we went. But they have been putting out spring stuff, so not sure how lucky I'm going to be to find one.

I have a large fleece type blanket from REI that is REALLY warm, so I was thinking, nice fluffy towel by the pool, strip him down like you suggested in the towel, carefully warp in a warm robe and then when we get to the car have him cuddle in the blanket and robe until the car warms up and then get him in some sweats and a warm shirt, because we are about 45 min out and I'm not sure how safe it would be to buckle him in his harness with a thick robe on KWIM?

Long explanation. I'm in a little disbelief it's an issue.

it doesn't sound like a bad plan- i mean, it sounds warm 'n comfy. and he's a little guy- i wouldn't foresee complaints.
but i agree, kinda nuts it's an issue
the other mama had a good idea- checking for a family changing room?

my son's 2 years older and i don't think he'd care haha they go swimming at my parents and he gets out when it's cold, whips off his shorts, and runs butt naked through the yard back to the house
fuzzy blanket sounds better than that

they've gotta have SOMETHING like that!

That sounds freezing! He goes swimming outside this time of year? Although if it was heated and at home, that's not too far to have to run when you got out
