posted 22nd Feb
to have my son further looked at for autism.

the doctor he went to said he acts and seems autistic.. then sent us on our way to figure it all out on our own.

did tell us where to go.. or any of that.

Usually they set up to have them evaluated. I'd either call the doctor and tell him that you'd like a referral to have him evaluated, or go to a different doctor who will give you a referral.

well she had someone come in the home who said he has enough red flags to say he has it.. but she is not able to put that label nor does she think parents should..

i need help with people that know what to do and help me learn.. not treat him like he is mentally slow..

My sister went to a regional center for my nephew. Is there a regional center in your area? You could go through the school district as well.

That's ridiculous. Unless this woman did an actual diagnostic assessment, she can't just say he has red flags and call it autism. And then to leave you to figure out the next steps alone... Ridiculous!
There are few different ways you could go about getting your child evaluated.
You could ask the Dr to refer you to a licensed therapist/clinician. They will do a proper assessment, which can take a few visits. You could contact your insurance provider customer service and ask about outpatient therapy services or resources. They can refer you to places for evaluation as well. There are often community-based services out there too that do home-based services and can do an evaluation/assessment. You could also see a neutologist. I'd say the best place to start is with the dr and get a referral, and if the one you are currently seeing is not a good fit, then get a new dr and explain what you need. Not sure how old your child is but if they're school-age, try the school social worker or psychologist for resources.

Try a child study center in your area, how old is your child?
I would be finding another doctor he/she should have directed you in the right direction if not done it themselfs. you might need a referal depending on insurace.
