My NATURAL birth plan in a hospital.

posted 22nd Feb
This isn't too much to ask is it?
My sister seems to think that the nurses are going to be bitches to me because I want these things, such as skin to skin for a while after before they clean, weigh, measure ect. because they have "other things to do and other patients to tend too" She says that is what a birthing center is for but I perfer the hospital I am going to deliver at.
This is my plan, unfinished of course

Tricia and Eric’s Birth Plan
Admittance and Labor:
- I plan on laboring at home as much as possible so chances are I will be arriving in very active labor.
- My goal is to have a natural birth through Hypnobirthing.
- I do not want to be on monitors constantly and would like to be able to labor and move around freely.
- I wish to not receive Pitocin at any time.

Birth:
- We wish to leave the cord unclamped and uncut until it is finished pulsating.
- I wish for my son to be placed on my chest and remain there for an extended amount of time and any emergency assistants to be given on my chest.
- We wish for our son to remain with a parent at all times.

Baby Care:
- We will be exclusively breastfeeding and no formula is to be given at all.
- We wish for our son to have his first bath in the room with parents.
- Our son will be circumcised.

That's not very demanding at all, imo. Good luck!

Can you tour the hospital where you're going to give birth and bring your plan for discussion?

Except for the cord part... that's pretty much how my labor was, and was encouraged by my doctors. Immediate skin to skin, and baby roomed in with me. No formula.

That plan sounds good and doesn't seem like it would be a stress on the staff at all. I think all of those things are fairly common.

None of that seems unreasonable.

Thank you!
I didn't feel like it was either. I feel like if that's the case (how she feels) then every women who wanted these things would have to find a "birth center" and nobody would get their natural birth in a hospital.

Everything looks doable to me except the having baby remain on your chest to receive emergency assistance... If it's an emergency they should and NEED to take the baby to work on him/her properly...

A baby can't have emergency assistance on your chest...other than that it seems reasonable.

Those are standard unless otherwise specified at my hospital...

You should say whether or not you are circumcising in your plan. Not like they wont ask but it is good to have in writing.

Sounds good to me!! Good luck!

They took my baby away right away to bathe her, she was only on my chest for a second. I didnt know i had a choice in that moment.

I would be OK with that is my sons life was at stake, of course.

My big thing was being monitored. Do I HAVE to be hooked up if I come in in very active labor. I can choose to have intermittent monitoring correct?
