weaning a breastfed baby?

At what age did you wean LO from the boob? And how did you do it?


My daughter turned one last week. We're not ready to quit now but I'm thinking i probably want her weaned by 18 months or so. She pretty much only nurses when she's sleepy (I still nurse on demand though). She eats baby food along with table food too now & will drink juice also.

Also, when i took her to the health dept. they checked her iron & it was a tad low (9-10 point something). The nurse said she was probably drinking too much milk, so i increased her food intake & cut back on breastmilk some.

I've got enough frozen breastmilk in the freezer to give to her for a few months after she weans too.

My son self weened at 14 months, so he was easy. With my daughter around 14 months I started cutting out 1 day time feeding every 2 weeks. By 18 months she was only nursing at bed time, and then she self weened from that feeding by 19 months.
