Fear of Thunderstorms in 4 Y.O.

posted 10th Jun
My 4 year old is terrified of thunderstorms. He actually begins to sweat and shake when he hears thunder. If it happens @ night, I have to go lay with him until it passes. Then after a storm, he spends his time looking out the window asking if another storm is coming and when. That can go on for 2 days. I have tried everything. I cuddle him, rock him, soothe him. I have tried to explain that it is just God bowling (he didn't by that). I then told him it is the clouds just bumping into each other. That hasn't helped. We had a storm this morning and he is worried about another one. I had to force him to play outside. Anyone have any suggestions on how to help him? I know fear is normal for his age, but it seems to be almost to a point where it is impairing him. Any suggestions would be so helpful!

Wow, sorry I have no advice to offer. But I am just curious, did something happen during a storm that has scarred him like that or is this just out of the blue?

I am with pixies though, I would probably talk to his doctor about it. Wouldnt want any long term affects. Good luck.

No. I started last summer after we had a tornado warning. It touched down like 10 miles from our house. After hearing that, we went into the basement to be on the safe side. It never came near us, but that storm was horrible. Rain, sleet, hail, thunder that shock the house. It was bad. Since then, he has been crazy over them. Where we live, this time of year, we usually get some big ones. I feel so bad for him but I am at a loss as to what to do for him. They are calling for strong storms this afternoon and tonight
