feeding themselves

my son will be 6 months in a week and hes already eating food but i was wondering when you start giving them stuff to feed themselves? and what you give them?

DD is 7 months and she only feeds herself puffs and mum mums. We might try the yogurt melts soon.

I started giving dd mummums,puffs,and yogurtmelts to eat by her self at that age and about 10 months when she was chewing good I gave her any dry food that she could handle. We just recently let her start eating noodle by her self havent given any "wet" foods yet. She is 12 months

I started with slices of avacados and bananas...then steamed carrots and baked sweet potatoes...soft slices big enough that they can grasp and take bites out of.

Introduced at 7 months....started pickin it up at 9 months.

6 months is the earliest to start...no teeth required..the back gums are hard and sufficient  

I was considering trying the puffs but im also afraid hes gonna choke. i cant remeber what age my first son was when i started giving him the mum mums but i know by 12 months he was eating everything i basically ate

LO was eating puffs and yogurt melts on her own by 6 months, soft table foods by 9 months and anything we eat by 12.

But, she had a lot of teeth early. She's 16 months now and only needs 5 more teeth...

7-8 months we started foods he could hold in his hands.

Baked potato fries, rolls, soft breadsticks, fruit pieces, steamed veggies, pasta

He doesnt have any teeth yet so I havent tried meats yet, I might make up some chicken pot pies this weekend and shred some chicken for him/

We do baby led weaning so we only do finger foods.

hes so adorable and im gonna try him on some of the baby puffs since they melt right away and see how he does with them

The best foods to learn to eat are cut into pieces the size of your index finger. Also remember there will be some gagging as they learn to eat. Some good basics here
