Sort of a vent...question?

posted 22nd Feb
What do you say to someone in your SO's family who is trying to force you to agree to get an epi (if that makes sense)? My SO doesn't understand how bad I want to labor naturally, IF I can since I may be getting an induction. But SO's family keeps telling me to get the epi so I won't be a bitch. Um labor hurts duh...but I just keep telling them I don't want one unless I can't handle the pain. I mean my family is supportive 100% but not his. I am running out of things to say. I mean hell it's my labor and just because I will probably hurt to the bitchy point doesn't mean I should change what I really want does it? I won't try to be mean on purpose but if it happens isn't the pain of natural labor a reason?

And please don't quote this either.

Change the subject when it comes up. That's no one's business.

I would just ask them, "how does my method of pain relief make any difference to you?".

I try   and even SO is begging me to get one and I told him no. He is afraid I will be worse then when I was hormonal. I mean I just want to not have one, and he said if I don't get one he will just laugh at me for the pain and the mean things I will probably say.

I agree with you. My goal is to not be induced or have the epidural unless I absolutely don't think I can stand the pain, which will only be during labor, I guess. It's your choice. They most likely won't be there to see you when you're going through the pain of labor and even if they were, that's your decision to make, not theirs.

Just let them talk. Don't say anything back. I mean chances are they will not be in the room. I thought I wanted friends and family with me when I labored. Nope. I only wanted my grandmother and DH. My DH wanted me to get drugs, and started talking about it the week we found out I was pregnant. I had a 5 day labor and all of it except for like an hour was drug free. I only got the epi then because I had a feeling I would need an emergency c section. I was right.

Hmmm....that is a good point   then they will hopefully shut their mouths and go on about their days lol.

You should just tell them that they don't have to see you in labor then. Labor hurts. Like a bitch.
Your decision to try and labor naturally is an extremely admirable one. Don't let anyone try to talk you out of it!

Tell them it's YOUR pregnancy and you'll handle labor how you see fit. That's no one's decision to make but your own. Labor is a very personal experience. So if you want to be "bitchy" and natural then so be it!

Your labor your choice. Besides its not like they are all going to be able to be in the room anyway. They can't force you to and they cant tell the doctor to give it to you.

I want to experience it without any meds! I just am now to the point I hurt and when I am aggravated at times like that I want to say well smurf off but I am still trying to be nice lol. And I hope your's goes as you plan it too!

Everyone's an expert... lol. Your labor and delivery are YOURS. Absolutely nobody can tell you what to do. Just smile and thank them for their advice - keep the peace, but don't stress about what they say! Tell your doctor and have your own plan. Blessings!!

Id kick his ass to the curb or tell him he wont be allowed in the room.
